Dog Days Are Over: This is the first song on the album and the second single released from the album. Music - The song starts off very softly with just a guitar, it then builds up to the chorus with the help of some clapping & drums. The build up is extremely climactic and it's easy to get drawn into this song and get lost in the music. Vocals - As always, Florence's vocals are amazing. Her voice ranges from soft & angelic to strong & powerful. Her voice is slightly operatic at points and although this sounds slightly strange, it fits in well with the song. Lyrics - I love the lyrics as they're open to interpretation, there is ... Read the complete review

Florence & The Machine are a five piece indie band from London, consisting of Florence Welch, plus 'The Machine' (Robert Ackroyd, Christopher Lloyd Hayden, Isabella Summers and Tom Monger). Their debut album 'Lungs' reached Number 2 in the UK album charts, coming second only to Michael Jackson's 'Number Ones' following the hysteria after his death. The album has since been nominated for the UK Mercury Music Award 2009, joint favourite to win the prize with Kasabian's "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum". Let me tell you, it is worth the hype. First, I'm going to come straight out with it and say that when I first heard Kiss With A ... Read the complete review

Florence and The Machine are a British band who have recently became pretty well known to music lovers thanks to performances at various festivals and exposure on T.V. I became aware of this band after seeing one of their performances on T4, and was blown away by the vocal talent of the lead singer so rushed to buy this album, Lungs, as soon as it was released in July this year. The album contains the following tracks: 1. "Dog Days Are Over" 2. "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" 3. "I'm Not Calling You a Liar" 4. "Howl" 5. "Kiss with a Fist" 6. ... Read the complete review

Florence and the Machine have been around for a while now, so I thought I would give in to the hype and give the debut album 'Lungs' a listen. I'm not a Radio 1 fan so hadn't really heard any of the songs, and assumed Florence was just another in a long line of 'alternative' singers latched on to by record companies. Well I was wrong. Florence and the Machine consists of Florence Welch, and whoever or whatever she happens to consider her band at that time. So far, so right on. But the strength in the music of Florence and the Machine is Florence herself, and so I don't see why she shouldn't make her band whatever she wants it to be. She burst onto the scence ... Lungs is the debut album from Florence and the Machine. FatM is the recording name of female singer Florence Welch and her backing group Robert Ackroyd, Christopher Lloyd Hayden, Isabella Summers and Tom Monger (backing names 'lifted' from Wiki!). The group's rise to prominence was helped greatly by the BBC and their BBC Introducing scheme which led to performances at Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading festivals. I class their style of music as Folk but it could easily also be considered as Soul or even Indie, Welch has a great, very natural, singing voice - the type of voice which makes me wish I could sing - and is backed up superbly by the ... Dismantling Devotion - Daylight Dies
More compelling and involving.
Still steals from Katatonia.
Dragonslayer - Dream Evil
Tribute to classic metal, with appropriate modern power metal influence. Incredibly catchy.
Cheesy.
Dream Evil - Dio
A last chance for 1980s Dio.
Less impressive than earlier albums.
Enter Suicidal Angels - Dark Tranquillity
Death Metal - 1996
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant - Dimmu Borgir
fast, melodic, varied
lost is the old sound, the mid tempo melancholy
Evilized - Dream Evil
Very little stands out.
A few good riffs here and there, and the style doesn't wear thin until the second track.
Expanding Senses - Darkane
Interesting take on the thrash/death mix.
Style becomes repetitive.
Exposures: In Retrospect And In Denial - Dark Tranquillity
Excellent live performance, great chance to hear rare songs.
B-side material is mostly (and inevitably) forgettable.
Embrace Of Memory - Darkestrah
Some catchy, traditional black metal.
Later songs sound too similar, and less interesting.
