Advantages: Some of the best work iggy has ever done

Disadvantages: It's not funhouse

Released in 1969 a few weeks after woodstock this was just another sign of the times for the impending death of the hippy dream. Primitive, raw and unhinged this album contains most of the well known songs from the bands catalog notably the iconoclastic "I wanna be your dog", "No Fun" and "Little Doll".

Produced by John Cale, the album has a slightly more polished and conventional sound than the two albums that followed and this is mainly down to John Cale "reeling" the band in somewhat from the more far out arrangements explored in the next album "Fun House". Most of the songs here are straight forward proto-punk thrash delivered with swagger and menace that Jim Morrisson could only pretend to have. One exception is "We will fall" which is a drone-y mantra which greatly benefits from the viola of Cale.

Whilst this isnt my favourite Stooges album (that honour of course goes to the mighty "Fun House") its a great starting point for anyone interested in the roots of punk rock music and Iggys career in general.

On a more sad note the guitarist who played on this album has recently died of a heart attack. Great guitarist highly underated.

RIP Ron, I still pretend to be you when playing guitar in the mirror
