... although this song is reminiscent of the previous album. Another good guitar line in this song, it is about not wanting to be someone's crutch all the time. I personally find this song good to drive to!! The verses' lyrics are very fast and show the skill in Thomas' songwriting skills. Last Beautiful Girl- Another attempt from the band to become more poppy in their sound, however this is pulled off more successfully than in 'Black and White People', probably because the lyrics are still downbeat and typical Matchbox style....more

Crowned Review Mad Season - Matchbox Twenty: 20-Twenty Vision? (3218 words)

We all know that people change and evolve as they go along. For creative people this may be even truer. Writers find different ways of saying things, and sometimes write about completely different subjects wherever their creativity takes them. Musicians can change dependant on current style or whatever they’ve been listening to and more inspired by recently. The record buying public is notoriously fickle. They don’t want to be hearing the same thing over and over again. After all, if that’s what you want, a single CD and a repeat button would take care of that. Fair enough, some bands can get away with trotting out the same old stuff ...  Read the complete review

Matchbox Twenty weren't in any hurry to release the follow up to their platinum selling debut album, taking some four years to release this well crafted follow up album in 2000. On first listening I wasn't going WOW nor was it played back to back like their first album "Yourself or Someone like you". In all honesty it was consigned to the pile of sometimes played Cd's it was only due to the fact that I'm going to see them in March that I started to listen to it a bit more! The first thing you notice is a more sophisticated sound, gone are the rough edges, raw anger that was synominious with their first album. Matchbox twenty have ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mad Season - Matchbox Twenty: Helping You Through A Mad Season....... (1138 words)

Yet another review from me on my favourite band........ no surprises here :-) The Difficult Follow-Up Album: After the success of Matchbox Twenty's first album "Yourself Or Someone Like You" the band took three years to produce their follow up, "Mad Season", released in 2000. During this time Rob Thomas performed as a guest vocalist on Santana's 'Smooth', which brought him more into prominance over in the UK, although the band were already big in America. The band also changed their name from Matchbox 20 to Matchbox Twenty and the new album supposedly signalled a change in vibe, from angsty and angry on Yourself..... to a more ...  Read the complete review

If it weren’t for the fact that just by chance a CD belonging to BJEEE got stuck to my nasty grubby little fingers, I probably would not know about Matchbox Twenty. Matchbox Twenty are a US band that plays a mellow type of weird stuff that I can only describe as brilliant music. It really does put you into the mood for whatever you are doing, be it working, trying to get to sleep, or preparing for a night out on the tiles. Their latest offering titled ‘Mad Season’ is their second album following on from their first exceptional album, ‘ Yourself or someone like you’, which has a hilarious picture of what I perceive a typical American ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mad Season - Matchbox Twenty: Easy on the ears (484 words)

Here we have a soft rock band that could potentially take the UK by storm but they are never marketed in this country! They come to the UK as part of a very small European tour and “do” three venues! The gig in London was great but come on - only 3 venues! All I ask is if you get the chance give this band a listen and see what you think… Surely you've had enough of Hear'say by now! Matchbox Twenty (MB20 hereafter) are quite frankly HUGE in America. They are played on almost every single radio station numerous times a day! They are apparently Britney's favourite band! Yet, most people haven’t heard of them in the UK. They are ...  Read the complete review
