Six Of One, Half-dozen Of The Other - Marillion

Premium Review Hooks In Me (686 words)
by cyberem78 - written on 17/10/08 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

When this album was first released in 1992 it was the best collection of Marillion s hit songs and an apt way to celebrate the band s tenth anniversary. The album is still a brilliant chance to get to know Marillion s music and hear the current singer, grown-up Goth lookalike Steve Hogarth as well as the original vocalist, big Scot Fish (Derek Dick) at work. The newer release, however of the remastered Best of Both Worlds collection, covers a greater period in the band s career and includes rarer songs and those which perhaps more accurately represent the band s contribution to the music world. This Strange Engine - Marillion

Premium Review Band of A Thousand Faces (458 words)

Vocalist Steve Hogarth revels in the sound of his own slightly Gaelic sounding voice and moans his way through a lot of the tracks. I get the sense of time slowing down and of music seeping through words, the ...

This Strange Engine - Marillion

Premium Review blue pain (960 words)
by pje - written on 13/08/01 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:

Having been dropped by EMI after "Afraid of Sunlight", Marillion responded with this tremendous and, in the circumstances, surprisingly confident CD. Their best since the departure of Fish and (dare I say it) very possibly their best ever. Marillion pretty much went back to the basics on this album, proper songs and plenty of acoustic guitar. It starts with MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES. A very catchy tune, this is so bright and exuberant that they even bring in a school choir towards the end. What do you mean you don't believe it? ONE FINE DAY with its wistful lyrics: ~ Listenin' to the pouring rain ~ Waiting for the world to change is more ...
