... aforementioned singles are both highlights on the albums (even if Shorley Wall has lost a little of its magic in this rerecorded version) whilst Roll Me In Cotton, a gorgeous piano-led affair is enough to have you weeping into your pillow. Yet there's something missing with this album. Million Suns is an okay song - slightly reminiscent of The Supernaturals, and songs such as My Baby's Too Tall and Thin sound a little too much like fillers. Which is a shame, because the b-sides on the singles have all been little...more

Premium Review The Magic Treehouse - Ooberman: Almost perfect pop (485 words)

I'll admit that I couldn't help feeling faintly cheated when I first listened to this album. The Shorley Wall EP received a fair amount of airplay from Jo Whiley while I was writing a dissertation, and I got hooked - it became my chillout, you-can-do-it song, and subsequent singles Million Suns and Blossoms Falling only reinforced my need for the album. There's no doubt that Danny Popplewell and friends have a great deal of talent, and that they put a hell of a lot of themselves into this album. Million Suns and Blossoms Falling provide two sweeping, joyous opening tracks, but parts of the rest of the album fails to live up to this early promise. ...

The Magic Treehouse is one of the best debut albums I've ever heard. It's amazing! It deserves much more widespread recognition than it's had. The songs are quite diverse and difficult to describe. Ooberman have definitely got an individual style. A lot of the songs could be described as guitar-pop but they have a slightly psychedelic edge to them that makes them so enchanting. You can feel the passion and enthusiasm in Danny's voice as he sings. His voice is also complemented by the gentle voice of Sophia Churney who provides backing vocals as well as keyboards. Songs like Million Suns and Blossoms Falling are very ...

The debut album from a band that have promised much in the past year or so. The singles are there - Shorley Wall, the irrsistable Blossoms Falling and Million Suns, all sparkling like new. Also there is a hidden track "Stormtrooper" - a live favourite (three minutes after track 14 finishes if you`ve not found it yet!) Ooberman are best described as quirky, energetic (having seen them live i`ll vouch for this - Danny never stands still!)and most of all POPPY! The Magic treehouse will never be described as a classic album - but if you`re after a good old bit of old fashioned pop they`re a good choice. ...
