... throwaway instrumental which is nice but nothing more, and all you need is love barely deserves to be called 'song', but the fact the glorious single 'strawberry fields forever/penny lane' is represented here, and most of the soundtrack is fun, albeit lightweight pop make this a good listen. A thing to note about the vibe of the album as a whole, is how wholeheartedly the Beatles were prepared to jump onto the 'hippy' bandwagon, and how in retrospect it appeared to the ignorant that they were somehow pioneering. ...more

It was all Paul's fault really. The "Magical Mystery Tour" was his brainchild; an allegedly fool-proof plan for making the next Beatles film. Get a group of people together, put them in a tourbus, drive around for a bit and film what happens. The only problem was that, unfortunately, nothing really happened. The band wore silly costumes, and that's about as good as it gets. This resulted in a truly rubbish film, which tarnished The Beatles reputation and left many believing that they were past their best. I say: don't let the film get in the way of the music. The simple sentiments of 'All You Need Is Love' may seem rather antiquated now, but exhibit a genuine lack of cynicism, unheard of in contemporary pop today, and 'I Am The Walrus', with its nonsense poetry and wig-out aural ...

Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles: Best psychedelia ever (102 words)

As a flower power symbol of sixties psychedelia - The Magical Mystery Tour album is probably the greates of them all, and only the Instrumental track "Flying" isn't worthy of an inclusion. Who could argue against the ranks of such popular folk lore as "Strawberry Fields Forever"; "All You Need Is Love"; "I Am A Walrus"; "Penny Lane" and the title track. It doesn't reach the peak of Abbey Road or the maturity of the White Album, but the Magical Mystery Tour is pure pop and pure musical bliss for everyone. ...
