Adele sadly missed out on any Brit Awards in 2009 and seemed to live in Duffy's shadow in 2008. I wonder if she will ever come into her own and achieve the same level of recognition. This is a release which should see her held in equally high regard though.
Who is she:
UK singer/songwriter Adele is from London and specialises in soulful pop music. She got a number one album with '19'
On this release:
Interestingly, this is a cover version of an old Bob Dylan track. Adele makes it her own though. It starts in a very sombre fashion and you can literally feel the emotion draining from her as she stumbles into the first verse. Her delivery is refined and heartbreaking. She has the knack of making it sound like she is in immense pain as she sings. The lyrics work superbly with her soulful voice and she brings an understated richness to the song.
'Make You Feel My Love' is not that instant and might take a few listens to get into it, but each time you will discover something new in the song. On the third listen I was noticing more and more how Adele was exploring her own emotion and letting this come through as the track developed. The song conjures up images of hugging in front of warm fires and being close to someone special, yet in the same breath, so very far away.
The CD comes with a bonus track which is a tender song, delivered with conviction once again.
A strong cover and an artist who should grow and grow.
