Weezer took five years to come up with last year’s Green Album, the follow-up has taken a little less time to come to fruition. Maladroit is Weezer’s fourth album and comes 11 months after their third, but the album certainly does not suffer from being crafted in such a short time. Lead-man Rivers Cuomo wrote something like 360 songs during his time away from Weezer, studying a Masters at Harvard, so it was not as if he had writers block for five years. The Green Album was in some ways a sort of foundation for Maladroit; it mixed the ruggedness of Pinkerton (1996), with the pop sounds of 1994’s Blue Album. Maladroit comes in with a ...

Having taken nigh on a five-year break between Pinkerton and their third album (lovingly referred to as The Green Album), Weezer spring a great big sloppy kiss of a surprise on us by bringing the next instalment out barely a year after the latter albums release. Mikey is out, Scott Shriner (who looks like someone's dad) is in, and 'Maladroit' is born. They’re Back!!! Rivers Cuomo and co. return with ‘Maladroit’, their fourth LP, and you’ll be pleased to know that it’s a belter. There are two overtly surprising things about ‘Maladroit’. The first of these is the fact that it has been released less than twelve months after last year’s ‘Green Album’ (which IS actually titled ‘Weezer’, despite the pedantic comment that someone left on one of my opinions).
