Whether the bands recent personal problems have anything to do with this I can't speculate, but I won't lose faith in Rivers Cuomo because one out of four albums fails to grab me. To me, the album is more in the style of the Green album, with dirtier guitar sounds and slightly more depressed singing from Rivers. The Special UK Edition of the album comes with two "bonus" tracks, "Living Without You" and "Island in the Sun&q...more

Crowned Review Maladroit - Weezer: Weez Explosion! (1345 words)
by kfingleton - written on 02/05/02 (Very useful, 134 readings)

Weezer took five years to come up with last year’s Green Album, the follow-up has taken a little less time to come to fruition. Maladroit is Weezer’s fourth album and comes 11 months after their third, but the album certainly does not suffer from being crafted in such a short time. Lead-man Rivers Cuomo wrote something like 360 songs during his time away from Weezer, studying a Masters at Harvard, so it was not as if he had writers block for five years. The Green Album was in some ways a sort of foundation for Maladroit; it mixed the ruggedness of Pinkerton (1996), with the pop sounds of 1994’s Blue Album. Maladroit comes in with a ...

Having taken nigh on a five-year break between Pinkerton and their third album (lovingly referred to as The Green Album), Weezer spring a great big sloppy kiss of a surprise on us by bringing the next instalment out barely a year after the latter albums release. Mikey is out, Scott Shriner (who looks like someone's dad) is in, and 'Maladroit' is born. Rivers Cuomo has been quite busy the past number of years creating a huge catalogue of songs, which is one explanation of why this album was out comparatively quickly. So, what's it like? Anyone who is a fan of Weezer will know exactly what to expect. Weezerworld is a crazy place of rocking riffs, ...

Premium Review Maladroit - Weezer: Rivers of Fun!!! (598 words)

They’re Back!!! Rivers Cuomo and co. return with ‘Maladroit’, their fourth LP, and you’ll be pleased to know that it’s a belter. There are two overtly surprising things about ‘Maladroit’. The first of these is the fact that it has been released less than twelve months after last year’s ‘Green Album’ (which IS actually titled ‘Weezer’, despite the pedantic comment that someone left on one of my opinions). Let’s remember that it took them five years to follow-up ‘Pinkerton’ whilst Rivers Cuomo attended Harvard University to study English Literature. The second surprising thing about ...

A 'New' CD from a great UK band Predominantly badly recorded demo tracks, a poor compilation of material

Catchy, likeable, fun, good mix Couple of weak links

Catchy, Clever, Crazy Scattergun

good to make these songs known by a wider public waste of money for Oasis fans who've got all the singles

Something new to listen to - this is not like their old material, but is still quite obviously music of the band. R. Takac.
