Ry Cooder’s always had a cult following, a musician’s musician if you like. In 1999, his involvement with the Beuna Vista Social Club was certainly instrumental in bringing the Cuban veterans’ album to everyone’s attention. Before that he’d recorded with people such as Captain Beefheart, Little Feat, the Rolling Stones – in fact managed to record with each of them while they were at their peak.
