Advantages: lots of good ideas

Disadvantages: some unheard of songs

The Cut Up Boys have done a few of these mash up compilations now. They take dance records and merge them together to create, well mash ups! Think Jive Bunny, only a lot cooler! The mixes are often pretty creative and inspired and work well in clubs.

There are two discs here and we're off to a good start with some rap artists banging together, Snoop and Dre slide effortlessly in around the funky beats of Groove Armada.

The album then goes all latino, as Tito Puente meets Beth Ditto's outfit 'The Gossip. It sounds hellish, but the tracks compliment each other and Beth's powerful vocal flows well over his latino beats. Head to Eric Prydz's 'Pjanoo' where the house anthem is given a superb smooth vocal from Ben Ofoedu. The track manages to retain its peaks and also inject an underlying level of soul.

Specktrum's 'Kinda New' is a filthy little track, given some polish with a Sophie Ellis Bextor vocal on top, lifted from her recent Freemasons outing. Everything she touches sounds classy and chic and this works well. If you fancy something heavier, breakbeats are the order of the day as Sub Focus hooks up with The Similou for a rehash of 'All This Love.' Their spirited vocals give lift to the song and his tough beats make it one for harder dancefloor sets.

As you move to disc two, trance gods Faithless are merged with man of the moment Dizzee Rascal. The track is pure peak time and Dizzee's madcap vocal works well with their epic 'God Is A DJ.' I am less keen on the Rolex Sweep song with Kid Cudi, which grates, thanks to a repetitive vocal.

There is more Dizzee Rascal as 'Dance Wiv Me' is put over a rerub of 'Blue Monday'. The electro rework by Vandalism uses the original riff while giving it more of a dark edge. Then be sure to check out hard house don Tony De Vit sitting pretty with Katy Perry. It sounds ghastly, but her summer anthem from 2008 powers through his best song 'The Dawn,' and suddenly Perry seems uber cool.

If you still have your head left on, then head to Art of Trance vs 'Born Slippy', where the maniac vocal rules over their hypnotic trance pads. There are 44 tracks on here, all well mixed with some interesting ideas. Worth checking out if you fancy something different to the usual Clubland albums.

Summary: good stuff
