Created during a period of bad times for the band, and produced by a different person than 'Gordon' and 'Born On A Pirate Ship', 'Maybe you Should Drive' is in my opinion a weaker album than I'd usually expect from the band. Indeed, there are even tracks on here that I skip past, which is unusual for the Ladies. However, it being the weakest album does not mean that there are no good tunes here. The excellent 'Jane' and very funny 'A' are here, as well as 'Life, In a Nutshell', one of my favourite tracks by the Ladies. This album is worth buying for these tracks alone. The first song I heard by BNL was "Jane," It really stood out amongst all the other songs being played, because its lyrics were smart and funny, and the music was great. When I found out they were Canadian, that sealed it -- I had to get the album. I am Canadian and I favor Canadian artists. I listened to it over and over and find it hard to say which tracks are the best. They're all so good! I shared it with a friend who said their musicianship was outstanding. Like all fans of all bands, I'm always inclined to say of BNL that the less known "early" stuff is better than the (more popular) later stuff. Translation - I liked them when they were good, before the hoi polloi discovered them ! Unfortunately, with this band it's largely true. "Gordon" is great if you can see past the wackiness. "Born On A Pirate Ship" (the album after this one) is good but a little over-angsty. By the time you get to Stunt, the content has gone and the wackiness is all there is left. So what about this one ? "Maybe..." is less self-consciously off the wall than Gordon, and a bit ...
