Advantages: calmer more reflective 2pac, some strong tracks

In 1994, facing the prospect of going to jail for sexual assault, Tupac Shakur spent his last days as a free man recording the album Me Against the World. A lot of the anger and attitude from earlier albums had been replaced with a more reflective style and a more respectful approach to the fairer sex.

The stand out track on the album is the beautifully crafted Dear Mama, an ode to his mother, who despite being hooked on crack cocaine managed to care for 2pac and his sister. The lyrics are truly inspiring and paint a bleak picture of the struggles faced by a young Pac as he dealt with a life on the streets without the guidance of a father.
Other notable tracks are the title track Me Against the World, focusing on the dramas of the street featuring his protégés - The Outlawz. So Many Tears, If I Die Tonight and Death Around the Corner are bleak views of death and suffering and Temptations is an upbeat number and Can U Get Away focuses on Pac trying to woo a woman stuck in abusive relationship.

With the exception of All Eyez on Me, this was 2pac's best work, refining his raw sound to a more calm and collected delivery, the beats blend well with a softer more reflective style.

A highly recommended album.
