Advantages: Great lyrics, great music
Disadvantages: None
This album is fantastic. Taking a break from the all out goth sound that was "Antichrist Superstar" Manson instead embraces technology on "Mechanical Animals" giving it a more industrial sound. People have said it sounds like it was inspired by Bowie and it is easy to see where these comparisons have arisen.
Marilyn Manson isn't as shocking as people would have you believe. His lyrics are no more offensive than Green Day or Nirvana, and express the same dissatisfaction withe the world. The music is fantastic too. The man can sing, and his band can really play. The screeching guitars, a heavy bass beat it the backround, great synths and drums overall creates a huge rich sound.
This was the first Manson album I got and I wasn;t really sure what I should be expecting, but I was pleasently surprised. It doesn't take any time at all to get used to, I think this is because it isn't as heavy as his other stuff. if I'd been thrown in at the deep end with "AntiChrist Superstar" I don't think I would have been hooked.
The best track is "THE LAST DAY ON EARTH". It's a beautiful track about spending your last day on earth with the one you love. It's quite affecting.
Other stand out tracks are "Rock Is Dead", a fast, shouty track rebelling against sell-out rock stars. "Coma White", about loving someone who is out of control, and "User Friendly" about someone you thought loved you, but is only using you.
Its an album I put on when I'm feeling down. It allows me to focus my thoughts. The lyrics are intelligent, not just the shouty aggressive lyrics I was expecting.
Give it a chance, you might actually like it.
