This is the first Beck album I ever bought, and after seeing what he released in to the charts subesquent to this album, it was the last. This is a great album. The humour running throughout is indicative of Beck - he just doesn't seem to give a damn about musical values, he just wants to make some noise. Musical values do pop up here and there, with the utterly amazing Loser, and the almost as amazing Beercan, but most of the album thrashes about in weird guitar and sample ... This is my favourite Beck album. It sounds like it's been put together randomly from samples and song-segments. The lyrics are equally messy, really bringing out the old Beck, before the professionalism that Odelay! made obvious.
