Advantages: Best tracks: Orpheus, Clones, Starcrossed, Vampire Love

Disadvantages: Another ballad would've been nice

Before buying this record, I didn't really know anything about Ash. However, after hearing Orpheus on the radio, I got home and gave this a play, and I was not disappointed!
Ash have done alot of growing up since their debut album '1977', and Meltdown present a heavier and slightly more mature sound for the band. The title track is a roaring rock anthem and kicks off the album. And the first line of the song "revolution, we're the solution" couldn't ring more true. The album continues with the heavier rockier sound, and the song Clones, which reached Number 1 is the UK Indies charts, is a particular highlight.
When you reach track 5 though, you got the power ballad 'Starcrossed', Tim Wheeler's ode to Romeo and Juliet. The song is much softer than anything else on the album but still has a big guitar solo that seems to be a running theme throughout this record.
Meltdown has gone a very long way to highlight the talent of the band and really highlights what Chartlotte Hatherley's lead guitar and backing vocals brought to the band. If you're a fan of Ash, you won't be disappointed. If you're not a fan of Ash, then prepare to become addicted and discover a new favourite band.

Summary: A very strong record for a band that just keeps getting better
