I was disappointed at first by this album, which seemed to abandon the epic touches of its predecessor in favour of a more typical black metal sound, but by the end of the first track I was convinced of its superiority not only within the exceptional French black metal scene, but the genre as a whole. As can probably be deduced from its bombastic title, 'Memoria Vetusta I: Fathers of the Icy Age' is a concept album, which seems to have pushed the band on to reach even more creative and talented heights.
