*Forgive me for the length. Much of it is for the benefit of the classical music dummies not knowing anything about any of this stuff. And you try stuffing five symphonies and other works into a succinct whole. Not so easy, is it?* I wonder what it is about child prodigies that makes them die sooner than your run-of-the-mill counterparts who had to work for their success. To just stick at composers, W.A. Mozart created a string of works today heralded as masterpieces in their respective genres: he was dead at age 35; Franz Schubert composed some very forward-looking works in the shadow of Beethoven as well as 600 lieder: died of symphilis at age 31; ...
