... one of those things. Each tracks has been thought out structurally, dynamically and lyrically so perfectly that the tracks are able to evoke certain emotions whilst listening, from anger through to sadness to happiness and the songs can make you feel exactly how they were written to make you feel. The tracks are very vocal led with interesting, originally yet still catchy melodies. Maynard's vocals are a touch on perfect as well, containing all aspects expected of a vocalist, yet having the versatility to be abl...more

Premium Review Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle: A Perfect.....Album (327 words)

A Perfect Circle have managed to write a perfect album here. This albums does come into my top ten favorite albums due to how well written it is, how emotionally moving each track is and how talented the musicians are. Being a guitarist myself I am very judgmental of all music that I listen to. I have been doing music since I can remember from classical through to any style imaginable, I am flexible with everything I listen to but there are some things that immediately strike me as being brilliant and this is one of those things. Each tracks has been thought out structurally, dynamically and lyrically so perfectly that the tracks are able to evoke ...  Read the complete review

After Tool released Aenima in 1996 they entered into a drawn out legal battle with their former label which lasted nearly 2 years. After the legal wrangling had finished the band members decided to take some time off and it was at this juncture Maynard James Keenan joined up with Billy Howardel and Paz Lenchantin to form A Perfect Circle. Howardel was a guitar tech for bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails and Fishbone and it was while he was teching for Tool that Keenan listened to some of the songs Howardel had been writing with Lenchantin. Keenan was so impressed by what he heard he asked to be the singer on the project and although Howardel had ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle: Stunning. (158 words)

I am a big Tool fan and i thought that nothing could live up to Tool, but i was wrong. A perfect circle are amazing and this albums proves that. In the short time that this album has been out, it has managed to become one of my favourite albums. The Hollow (which is the first track) is just monumentous, it has a real energy, which just does something to you, just like Tool. The sixth (?) track "3 Libras" also doessomething to you but in another way, this track is slower, but still moves you, infact all of the tracks on this album do. When i first got the album i wasn't that into it, but with more listens the more you like it, until you cannot take it off ...  Read the complete review

Poetic sea of names As most people who read my reviews know Tool is my favorite band for a various array of reasons. The singer Maynard James Keenan has always wrote his music in a poetic sense of intellectual and deeply spiritual nature. One of his other projects is a band called "A Perfect Circle". Their first album was released on May 23, 2000, The album consisted of 12 tracks, 7 of which were some ones name and it was aptly titled "Mer De Noms"; which is French for "Sea Of Names". This album is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. This album mixed partially heavy distorted guitar and of course Maynards voice ...  Read the complete review

The Band. ------------------------------- Billy Howerdel: [lead guitar, vocals, bass.] Maynard James Keenan: [lead vocals.] Josh Freese: [drums.] James Iha: [backup guitar.] Jeordie White: [bass.] A Perfect Circle is an alternative rock band formed in 1999 by Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan. The band has currently released three albums: Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe. The group has not recorded, toured or released any new material since its hiatus began in 2004. Since then band members have worked on other projects but this album and band is still well worth mentioning as it is simply ...  Read the complete review

Ultima Thulee - Blut Aus Nord
Diverse and multi-faceted. Keyboards don't work alongside the other instruments as well as they would like to.

Tomorrowland - Black Majesty
Competent melodic power/heavy metal. Disappointing compared to predecessors.

Theatre Of The Damned - Blitzkrieg
Modern production and some interesting lyrical themes. A lack of energy and too much repetition.

Silent Company - Black Majesty
Incredible guitar solos, and a great performance all-round. Predictable and samey throughout, with few deviations.

Sands Of Time - Black Majesty
Melodic and grand power metal with superb guitars and vocals. Songs become repetitive.

Memoria Vetusta - Blut Aus Nord
Epic black metal done well, with great performances all-round. No particular track stands out.

Thelema 6 - Behemoth
Even more ferocious and intelligent than its predecessor. Alienates those who aren't into the general sound.

Crippled Lucifer - Burning Witch
mesmerising, atmospheric, and very original for the material's time definitely an acquired taste that will not appeal to everyone

About A Burning Fire - Blindside
Successful experimentation. Emo base is still pretty dire.

A Thought Crushed My Mind - Blindside
String sections demonstrate a willingness to innovate. It's tedious and cacophonous emo-hardcore.
