An album that didn't do it for me (Merriweather Post Pavilion - Animal Collective)

Advantages: Quite different from most stuff out there

Disadvantages: Horrible vocals and generally quite annoying

I can't work out if these guys are merely having fun using various instruments to come up with a chaotic dance rock sound that isn't really that psychdelic but is definitely different from your average track or whether they are pretentiously trying to achieve something and failing.

Either way, they do nothing for me whatsoever, the vocals border on irritating most of the time and the music seems like chaos in a child's kindergarten, it's a little bit different but I don't see it as groundbreaking and despite the general consensus that this is in fact a good album, I don't think it will be well remembered in a few years nor will it go down in history!

It's possible that constant playing of the album might result in it growing on me but I don't think it's worth the initial pain, there seems to be very little in the way of anything to grip you in the music, it's just like one big annoying blur of sound, admittedly I don't get it - it's too squeaky and even the supposedly cheerful "My Girls" seems more like a chore to listen to than a party track.

There's plenty of people who seem to be enjoying this album out there but I'd check out the majority of the songs before buying because you could be in for a nasty surprise, if like me the band does nothing for you!
