Advantages: Classic songs abound

Disadvantages: None

Metallica's self-titled album, best known by fans as The Black Album, was released in 1991 and is without a doubt the best known and most acclaimed Metallica album of all. It's full of the band's signature songs, such as Sad But True and Enter Sandman, and is a stamp of their enduring legacy, even with some of their not so amazing efforts recently such as St. Anger (which I still enjoyed, unlike most people!)

Enter Sandman is probably my favourite track on the album - it starts off calmy and then gets more and more frenzied, before the band just go crazy and sing about the evils trying to get you in your dreams. It has a very memorable video aswell, which involves a sleeping child getting chased by a huge truck in his dreams! Any self-respecting Metallica fan knows this song like the back of their hand.

Sad But True is another classic song also that was sampled by Kid Rock for his song American Badass, and was used as the WWE wrestler The Undertaker's theme back in 2001. It has a very unique opening riff that permeates through the rest of the song - this is one of their more ethereal sounding songs.

The Unforgiven is another fan favourite - it's a slow and meditative song that tells an epic story, and was popular enough that it had a second part written, and even a THIRD part written for their most recent album, Death Magnetic.

Nothing Else Matters is a little slower than Unforgiven, but is another staple Metallica song and without a doubt one of their best. The accoustic guitar work is wonderful and the lyrics are magnificent.

This is a juggernaught of an album that has plenty of other awesome tracks, but these are my favourites. It has a real timeless quality and stands as their best album and a towering reminder of what real metal sounds like.

Summary: Simply amazing
