This album, is a mind blowing classic. Based on the concept of Clive Barker's "Nightbreed" "Hellraiser" and "Cabal" novels and films, this album ferociously explores the concepts aroused in those titles; ranging from lycanthropy, the search for the city of Midian, the Cthulhu Mythos (although seemingly irrelevant) and various other dark themes, very original to Dani's style and interests. The instruments consist of a variation between rapid guitar with a speedy, haunting symphonic/organ background, to slow, romantic, melodic riffs and gentle harmonies. The vocal style is a combination of the classic, high ... Read the complete review

British vampire enthusiasts Cradle of Filth are one of the most successful and prominent bands of the black metal genre, their extreme, heavy and intricate music and dark, erotic and (occasionally) very amusing lyrics earning the band an extremely loyal fan base. It was with their 2000 album ‘Midian’ that the band really hit their stride and became noticed by the general public, leading to mixed reactions: metal and gothic music fans had found a new favourite band, while hilarious TV personalities such as Jonathan Ross could pretend to be really clever and down with the kids by mentioning them pretty much every time I randomly channel surfed through his ‘Film 2001’ ... Cradle of Filth brought this album out in the year 2000 on Music for Nations label. This album I feel is more special than the other albums as I feel that more effort, or you could say more soul has been put into the album than some of the other albums. There are more complicated riffs, the guitar playing seems of a much higher standard- even though some people say that this album is not as good as the others. I would say its of a slightly different style and approach to some thing like ‘From The Cradle To Enslave’ where there is more a feel of heavy speed black metal- this album still has that but feels more powerful and soulful. This was my first metal album and I confess that I still hear it all the time due to it's melody and sheer darkness that still makes me tremble. Dani's vocals are amazing (has always) ranging through a lot of diferent tones. The classical sounds fit amazingly well with the guitar, bass and drums giving and sometimes complemented by amazing choirs that seem to take us to a hunted house or a graveyard at night. Choosing the best tracks is very hard, since they are all amazing, but my fave is saffrons curse (the third track). A somewhat calm start rises to an amazing metal discharge wich combines great vocals (male and female) with classical ... Read the complete review

Cradle of Filth released Midian in 2000 on Music For Nations. The band are traditionally seen as disgusting and freakish, however I beg to differ. Although their dark, twisted and slightly perverted gothic style is a little to much for some tastes I urge you to give Midian a try. Midian is just about as graveyard, porno and devil obsessed as you can get,but it is what the band is about. If you are in the right mood the album is amazing, with Dani's(lead vocals) soaring vocal range, combined with dramatic guitar, church organs and messed up lyrics. Buy this dramatic album if you're up for something different,it doesnt mean that you'll become a ... Read the complete review
