Advantages: Nice funky tunes

Disadvantages: its all gonna end in tears

An outburst of lyrical expression with a touch of an ecclectic symbolism that merges into a hysteria of life. Thats what Beck would say about this album....probably. But then you never can tell with Beck. One minute he's spouting utter gibberish, the next he sounds like Stephen Hawkins on speed. (metaphorically of course....He doesnt have one of those computer voices or anything) But then maybe Beck has changed a little. Take "sexx laws" for example, which on the surface appears to be some surreal philosophical view on life, when actually its just a bloody good song.

The fact that he harps on about his own sexual prowess is a little strange though, especially when you see man who posessess the charisma of Rodney Trotter with a sideburn transplant. But I imagine when Beck looks at himself, he seems himself as the natural hier to Sex fuhrers like Prince and Barry White. And who am I to argue with him?..No-one, when he's swinging his pants and making like a love machine with the abandon of "peaches and Cream" or "Debra" on this record.

Like all great musicians, I feel he's, sooner or later, gonna make a right gold plated arse of himself, but he goes so far over the top that it works great. The jazz funky track "Hollywood Freaks", the electro-style "Get real paid" and the awesomly rifftastic "Pressure Zone" are all superb and, while mainstream pop lovers might not like them, Beck fans will remember these as some of his greatest moments.

"I wanna get with you, ooooooh, and your sister" he sings on the final track "Debra", and just in case that was too subtle for ya how about "When our eyes did meet, you knew I was packing heat!". A lesson for u all there I feel, cause lets face it, if Beck can convince the female population that he's a down and dirty sex machine, there might be hope for me yet.

All in all a very good album and one
to reccommend to all Beck fans, however, If you aren't a Beck fan you might find this a little too surreal for you tastes.
