Advantages: haunting tracks, Harket's singing
Disadvantages: lyrics could be better
As a sad 80s-child music fan, my memories of A-ha are of the 'famous' hits. When I discovered the "best of" album, I played it constantly, with short breaks for the Duran Duran "best of" album, for about a month. And so when I found that Morten was bringing out a new album I was ecstatic. Minor Earth, Major Sky is beautiful. It's lost none of the magic of the 80s, but intensified the haunting element found in the old classics such as "Stay on these Roads" (one of my all-time favourites). There isn't a single bad track on the album, although if there is one track that seems a bit weak, it would be "The Company Man" - although I suspect that that is just in comparison to the company it keeps. One of the most moving is Velvet, which Harket sings perfectly, as ever. The build-up to "I wish I Cared" is a work of genius. But my favourite track has turned out to be the melancholy "You'll Never get Over Me" I would definitely recommend this album to anyone that ever enjoyed the same kind of music as me, namely the haunting tracks by A-ha, Black, Mailylion, etc over the years. Why this album hasn't been a bigger hit, I have no idea. It certainly deserves a wider audience than I suspect it is currently getting
