Else - They Might Be Giants
by Wezzo - written on 24/07/07 (Very useful, 73 readings)

weird one. It s like a mini-version of Their earlier "Fingertips" (for those who are unaware, this was a series of around twenty 10-15 second long vignettes on the earlier They Might Be Giants album "Apollo 18"); the song changes direction about seven times throughout the song, and, as might be expected, some parts are more successful than others - personally I prefer the later, more upbeat sections as opposed to the early ballad-like sections. It s a fun piece as a whole. "The Shadow Government" is next - a song band member John Linnell proclaimed as "finally! a protest song for drug dealers!" It s a great upbeat all-out rock ...

So, this is where John Flansburgh and John Linnell's insanely surreal song-writing career begun. From the first track 'Everything Right Is Wrong Again' to the final 'Rhythm Section Want Ad', we're treated to a brilliant selection of well-constructed and well-performed pop songs. This CD combines They Might Be Giants first two albums plus loads of b-sides and stuff. It s great value for money since it works out cheaper than buying the first two albums on CD from Amazon. I probably wouldn t recommend this to anyone who hasn t heard They Might Be Giants, or has only heard Birdhouse in your soul or ...
