A deeply autobiographical and poignant record, marking the coming of age of Delta. (Mistaken Identity - Delta Goodrem)
Advantages: Some beautiful and haunting tracks, mixed with hopeful and catchy pop tunes. Disadvantages: A couple of tracks disappoint. Delta's second, full studio album Mistaken Identity emerged from the darkest period of this talented young singer/songwriter's life and is definied by the conflicts between darkness and hope, sorrow and love. Following the huge success of her first studio album, Innocent Eyes, across Europe, Asia and her home of Australia, big things were expected of this stunning new talent. Her success however, was to be tainted with her diagnosis with cancer, forcing Delta to step out of the public eye and concentrate on her health. Her return with Mistaken Identity, heralded a new era in her life, the Aussie darling had grown up. The album offers a darker more introspective tone, with tracks such as Extraordinary Day, Mistaken Identity and The Analyst, offering an honest and self-analytical portrayal of her experinces since gaining fame. The album does however, have an overwhelmingly positive message, with tracks such as 'Out of the Blue' and 'Be Strong' offering fans hope and light in the face of adversity. Indeed, Delta's own phrase, love and light, seems to face her adversities head on in this deeply autobigraphical recording. Stand out tracks include 'Mistaken Identity', 'Last Night on Earth' and 'Electric Storm' in which Delta's full vocal and lyrical capacity is revealed. Only a couple of tracks fall short of the mark; 'Miscomunication' seems and ill-advised attempt at RnB, whilst 'A Little too Late' offers only summer, radio-friendly potential. The album as a whole however, documents the maturation of one of the most exciting and talented singer/songwriter's in the world. Summary: A deeply autobiographical and poignant record, marking the coming of age of Delta. |
