The Hardest Part - Allison Moorer
by pineroad - written on 28/07/00 (Very useful, 52 readings)
Rating:
It's hard not to sound glib or patronising when one says that Alison Moorer could learn a few lessons from her older sister, Shelby Lynne. You see, Shelby made a whole bunch of records not unlike this, Alison's second, before finally breaking out of the constraints created for her by the country music establishment and releasing her soul-influenced gem "I Am Shelby Lynne". Alison, like Shelby, has a great voice (though perhaps not as great) but it's the musical accompaniment that causes the problem. Only Buddy Miller's playing on "The Best That I Can Do" shines through; otherwise it's business as usual, with bland sounds and ...

Alabama Song - Allison Moorer
by Glasgow Girl - written on 05/07/00 (Very useful, 38 readings)
Rating:
In the latter part of last year I was lucky enough to hear an album called, “Alabama Song”, by a New Country artiste by the name of Allison Moorer . I had already heard one track, “a Soft Place to Fall”, which was featured in the Robert Redford movie, “The Horse Whisperer”. Although New Country is my music of choice - (owing to the fact that you can put on an album, hear it all the way through and not have to ‘skip’ a single tack) - I was ‘moved to my boots’ by the way in which she wove her sultry voice around the lyrics of the poignant, "hard country" ballads, showing every posible nuance of ...

Products similar to Mockingbird - Allison Moorer
Vii - At Vance
More fast and slow power metal with an even more substantial eighties touch.
Disappointing change of direction, with less focus on neoclassical guitars.
Yes: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
The first album by a great group
Its actually terrible.
Worlds Collide - Apocalyptica
'Last Hope' is good, thrashy, old-school Apocalyptica.
The band is all too happy to abandon its identity.
Volume 8: The Threat Is Real - Anthrax
More experimental and fun than other mid-to-late-nineties Anthrax.
Still nothing like the good ol' days.
Time And A Word: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
Better than the first with some great relistenable tracks
The unique Yes style still not shown through
The Yes Album: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
A new line up with superstar Steve Howe and a new approach to songwriting
Sometimes it just doesn't work - this isn't 100% masterpiece
Stomp 442 - Anthrax
Groove metal fans may enjoy it.
This is horrible.
Sound Of White Noise - Anthrax
If you're desperate for more generic early-nineties hard rock/grunge.
Doesn't sound like Anthrax, and John Bush doesn't impress.
Eclipse - Amorphis
Skilfully combines the band's disparate styles under a talented new singer.
Over-reliance on slow, gothic rock pieces becomes tiresome.
Plays Metallica By Four Cellos - Apocalyptica
Fantastic take on some classic Metallica songs.
Shame the album is only 8 songs long not 88.
