The Mod movement started in jazz cafes in the late 1950's and peaked in the early to mid 1960's. The movement was mainly a working class subculture, they dressed in nice sharp Italian suits, listened to Rhythm and Blues and Soul music and rode scooters, in contrast to the other big subculture.....The Rockers, who wore leather, listened to rock n' roll and rode on big heavy motorcycles. By the mid 1960's the mod movement was on the decline, as psychedelic rock became a big part of the music scene, even bands such as The Who and the Small Faces, who were considered big Mod bands, started to change their musical styles and were no longer considered Mods.
