      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good mixture of original Mod and Mod Revival classics on two discs

      The Mod movement started in jazz cafes in the late 1950's and peaked in the early to mid 1960's. The movement was mainly a working class subculture, they dressed in nice sharp Italian suits, listened to Rhythm and Blues and Soul music and rode scooters, in contrast to the other big subculture.....The Rockers, who wore leather, listened to rock n' roll and rode on big heavy motorcycles. By the mid 1960's the mod movement was on the decline, as psychedelic rock became a big part of the music scene, even bands such as The Who and the Small Faces, who were considered big Mod bands, started to change their musical styles and were no longer considered Mods. Some of the Mods followed the hippie movement, while a lot of the hard core Mods began listening to Jamaican Ska and Reggae and evolved into the Skin Head subculture. By 1979, with Mod groups such as Secret Affair and The Jam, and also the film Quadrophenia, the movement had a mini revival.

      It's difficult to find a good compilation album that at least attempts to capture the spirit of the Mod movement. The 2005 compilation "Suited and Booted" didn't really do it for me and it kind of went off track a bit by including unplugged versions of Paul Weller singing "Town Called Malice" and "That's Entertainment" closing each disc, also the omission of one of the biggest Mod bands in the Small Faces. So it came as a nice surprise when I came across this compilation packed with a nice mixture of Northern Soul and Rhythm and Blues, spanning the original movement and its revival, containing 50 tracks in total and each one a real classic.

      <--Verdict-->
      This album is packed with a good mixture of old and newer Mod tunes and the newer ones don't sound out of place at all. Granted there are a couple of tracks that I don't think should have made the final cut, such as; "Tin Soldier" and "Itchycoo Park" by the Small Faces, but that is because they both came out when the original movement had all but declined(Don't let this put you off though, they are both great tracks that still don't sound out of place). All in all this is a fantastic album and before long will have you singing along, highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of sixties music.
