Advantages: Remastered sound and nine bonus tracks, Solid Performance, Plays like a career-spanning compilation

Disadvantages: High Cheese factor, poor sequencing with bonus tracks, Danny Boy

(Moody Blue remastered with bonus tracks #10-#19)

Moody Blue plays like a b-side career-spanning retrospective of Elvis. Way Down and Little Darlin? would have definitely worked in 1956. Moody Blue and If You Love Me (Let Me Know) our country rock gems that work well with many like genre hits of that era. The rest of the songs well represent Elvis following his return from the army.

The true highlights were his above-mentioned timely pieces. They are solidly produced and fun. There is no real substance and lyrically are belches, but are pleasant to the ear and liable to be hard on a dance floor. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) is a cover originally made well known by Olivia Newton John (when she was a little bit country).

On her version, the performance was a mouse-like and chirpy at the same time. It did not fit her vocal abilities. In fact, this always sounded like an Elvis song. His version is imperfect, but is wrong in all the right places. These quirks add character to the performance and provides for my lasting enjoyment of the song.

Each song is enjoyable for various reasons. The least listenable tune is Danny Boy because it?s about as queer as you can get with its bursting through the roof cheese factor and it being a really out of time traditional clunker. His performance is incredible and that?s its only saving grace.

His voice is great (for the most part) and he sounds like he?s fresh during the balance of this recording. The best sequencing of tracks are #1-#9, which is not surprising, since it makes up the album without the inclusion of bonus tracks. Songs #10-#19 blend together and need to be played at random for highest enjoyment.

This CD is mostly occupied by ballads. They are virtually all covers because Elvis rarely wrote his own music. Other tracks that are very enjoyable include Unchained Melody, Hurt, She Still Thinks I Care and Solitaire.

Determination:

A very solid CD
for an Elvis fan to
listen to behind closed doors. He sounded in good voice and spirits with this recording.
