Premium Review Birtpop brilliance (1023 words)
by bailey_kipper_uk - written on 24/08/08 (Very useful, 85 readings)
Rating:

this album at 4/5 stars on my Itunes account, that s a very good amount. I m guessing a lot of people don t really know who Cast are, I say this as I saw an episode of Stars in their eyes where one of the guys performed a song by Cast. He was brilliant but finished up 4th or something similar, can t remember who won but it was a singer that most people over the age of 50 knew and liked but anyone under that probably hadn t heard of. Cast were a band of the 90 s britpop movement, this was their debut album and they managed 3 more albums before dying out with much of the britpop scene at the end of the 90 s. John Power (formerly of The La s) was the lead singer, ...

Premium Review British Indie band Cast break into fine song with this album (546 words)
by antonio79 - written on 19/04/07 (Very useful, 474 readings)
Rating:

when British Indie music was beginning to bear fruit once again with the likes of Oasis and Blur. It was a fairly dynamic time for the music industry and Cast were not slow on the uptake with this really fine collection of songs. It took me a good few listens before the album grew on me but once it had I couldn t understand why it had taken so long! It really is a cherished part of my collection. I still wonder if they could have done better than John Power s broad Liverpool accent as vocals but, then, perhaps that is part of it. It certainly is a distinctive sound. The album itself is a collection of almost funky pop/rock tunes with one or two slow efforts to ...

The Symmetry Of I The Circle Of O - And Oceans
Upbeat, atmospheric and surprisingly accessible black metal. Second disc may disappoint, and the whole thing isn't quite as experimental as you may expect.

The Machinery Of Oblivion - Arcane Order
Aggressive death metal without sounding forced. Clearly derivative of Gothenburg bands.

Silent Waters - Amorphis
Some good melodical riffs Too wet

Lost In Space: Vol. 2 - Tobias Sammet's Avantasia
Good vocals. More of the same, and the same wasn't that good.

Morphogenesis - And Oceans
If you don't own the studio albums, this is some great symphonic black metal. Basically inferior versions of album material, sold for a quick buck.

Far From The Sun - Amorphis
A bit of a seventies throwback, if you like that sort of thing. Boring, disappointing and annoying.

Cypher - And Oceans
More coherent than 'A.M.G.O.D.' Abandons black metal for weak industrial.

Am Universum - Amorphis
Good enough atmospheric rock. The dullest Amorphis album so far.

A.m. G.o.d.: Allotropic/Metamorphic Genesis Of Dismorphism - And Oceans
A band moving forward. It looks like the wrong way.

Battle At Helms Deep - Attacker
Early U.S. power metal, from metal's golden age. Vocals may irritate, and it's all more than a little daft.
