Advantages: Great sounds, variety
Disadvantages: None
Even though I like listening to Kylie, Take That and the like I do also like what I call, proper music, old time, cool tunes with an even cooler vibe such as Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye etc, etc so when I heard about the new Motown 50 album to celebrate 50 years of Motown I just had to buy it. My husband loves that type of music too so it was a great present for him.
Motown has a great history in music. It is the name of a record company founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1959. I never knew this but apparently the name comes from joining the two words, Motor and Town as Detroit is where motor cars are predominately made in the United States. I think that's quite interesting as I love finding out about the origin of words and companies.
According to an article I read Motown played an important role in the racial integration of popular music, as it was the first record label owned by anAfrican American to primarily feature African-American artists who achieved crossover success.
This CD collection was released in 2008 to celebrate 50 years of Motown. On the front of the CD the tag line is Motown 50 - yesterday - Today - Forever. Inside the sleeve they write, "Motown celebrates its half-century and we're here to raise a glass to say brave, congratulations and thank you very much to the label that gave us so much sweet soul music. And here we have the very best Motown tracks of all time, as voted online.
The CD is black on the front and has a big M on it. Inside the M are photos of some of your favourite artists including Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, etc. The CD fits into a sleeve which has the M cut out which gives the CD quite a cool look.
The CD comes as a 3 CD pack. I have to say that just about every song on the discs is a absolute classic. If you are looking for your first Motown CD or looking to expand your collection then look no further than this collection as it really is the most comprehensive CD out there in terms of various artists, hits and songs you love. Everyone will have you singing along shouting, I love this one. There are 61 tracks on the CD so too many to mention but I will run through just a few of my favourites:
CD 1
The Supremes - Baby Love
Jackson 5 - ABC
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered
Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye - You are Everything
CD 2
The Temptations - Papa was a rollin' stone
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - The tracks of my tears
Four Tops - Reach out- I'll be there
Lionel Richie - All night long
CD 3
Commodores - Nightshift
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - I say a little prayer
The Supremes - Come Together
