Moulin Rouge is the 2001 musical film directed by Baz Luhrman. It tells the tale of Christian, a young writer who has made his way to Paris and fallen in love with the lead performer at the Moulin Rouge, the world famous cabaret act. The soundtrack accompanies the film brilliantly for the most part. It is quite a dark film and thus a dark soundtrack, and will not be to everyone's liking. It is a compilation of what is essentially cabaret music, although there are some tracks which resonate commercially such as the arrangement of Elton John's 'Your Song', the hit 'Lady Marmalade' and the released track 'Come What May', sung by the impressive Ewan McGregor and ... For those of you confused, this is the latest Moulin Rouge release. It all began last summer when an import version of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack was available in the shops. The film was eventually released in September, and the import version disappeared to be replaced by an almost identical UK version with a couple of remixes tagged on the end. It sold very well, the film was a huge success, not just with the public (and myself), but the critics too. Earlier this year, an amateurish CD appeared in the shops - "Music Inspired from the film Moulin Rouge". This was a pleasant, unofficial collection of the original version of songs that appeared in the film. It ... Read the complete review

Musicals are not for everyone. In fact, many people turn their backs on musicals. I am not one of those people. From oldies like My Fair Lady, The King and I and Calamity Jane to the newer ones, such as Evita, Little Shop of Horrors and most certainly Moulin Rouge. I find myself enthralled as people act out real life on the screen while spontaneously bursting into song. Don’t you do that? Don’t you sing your way through the day? Well, okay, maybe I’m the only one living life as a musical. However, soundtracks are often a different story. A soundtrack to a movie is one thing. You get a collection of songs, some you remember hearing in ... Read the complete review

Moulin Rouge, is a mind-blowing experience of a movie, and thankfully, the soundtrack captures it in its entirety. This ecletic soundtrack has performances from Bono, Beck, Bowie, to... Jim Broadbent? yes indeed, as you may know already, Moulin Rouge is a musical, and so expect to hear the cast singing their hearts out. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor both have sung to professional standards, and are really, really good! So far two singles have been taken from the album. Baz Luhrman decided to take classic songs, and re-vamp them for the movie, and so the this OST is very original, in a familar way... Unfortuantely, a lot of the ... Read the complete review

THE FILM Moulin Rouge was released in 2001. It is about a young writer who seeks inspiration in beautiful Paris. He falls madly and deeply in love with the lead dancer at the Moulin Rouge club. The film follows the twists and turns of lovers. There is romance, comedy and tragedy. Best of all it is directed by Baz Luhrman and so you know you're in for a treat. From the opening sequence you can just see Luhrman in every detail of every scene. It is a spectacular film and highly recommended, but I do have to say the dramatic effects worked better on the large screen than on a tv. MUSIC The soundtrack that accompanies the film is as barking as ... Read the complete review
