Advantages: Real classics on this album.
Disadvantages: Has some Jackson 5 tracks on it.
This is an album that seems to disappear to the back of the collection, but every time I play it I realise that it has some terrific tracks on it. The only problem with listening to this album is that so many of the numbers have been covered by other artists that it is difficult to remember that these were the originals. (An exception to this is We Can Work It Out – Stevie Wonder, which of course was first a hit for The Beatles). Some of the tracks now seem unfamiliar and it would not be fair to say that everyone is a great track. I have never been a fan of the Jackson Five so there are two tracks that I will never like. But there are some real classics on this record. In my mind the best track is Just My Imagination by the Temptations, this is also subtitled “running away with me”. This haunting track always stays with me for days after I have played it and I find myself singing to myself over and over again. The other classic tracks are: I’m Still Waiting – Diana Ross Indiana Wants Me – R. Dean Taylor River Deep, Mountain High – Supremes and Four Tops Nathan Jones – Supremes I know there is a bit of a Diane Ross/Supremes bias there but these really are the best tracks. All of the music is from the late 1960’s and early 1970’s although this album was not released until 1997. This is a great album to relax by, you will feel your eyes closing as you gently drift back 30 years to the Motown era. If you enjoyed the music of that time then add this album to your collection, it is available on CD or cassette for about £5 – 6, but if you luck is in you may well pick it up from a second hand shop in it’s true vinyl format.
