Advantages: Some good tracks
Disadvantages: Nothing that grabs you enough to keep listening
Back when I was into hard rock music, I used to read Kerrrang. For some time they had made occasional references to these album, telling its readership that they would like it and it was ‘harder’ dance music. So, like the easily swayed sap that I am, I went out and bought it, brought it home, and stuck it in the player. First reactions? Hmmm…I wasn’t impressed. There were a couple of reasonably listenable tracks on it, but most of it just blurred together – in short, I pretty much hated it. But that was a few years ago now, and my tastes have radically altered, so I thought I’d give it another chance. Listening to it now I can sort of see where Kerrrang were coming from – it’s definitely a cut above most of this sort of thing, with some excellent tracks that really stand out. However I still don’t really listen to it because I still can’t find anything to really latch on to. With a lot of CDs, I’ll pick up on a couple of riffs or snatches of lyrics on the first listen that bring me back. As I play it again and again for these bits I’ll gradually get to love the rest of the album too and be able to pick out all of the little nuances that really make a record great. I don’t really have any such desire with this album. That’s not to say it’s bad, but I just can’t get into it enough to give it any attention.

- 02/07/00 They were the excellent tracks I mentioned, but I can't be bothered to listen to the whole album for them. Maybe I'll MP3 them onto my Hard Disk? |
