Advantages: Great voice, music
Disadvantages: None
Four years ago Kelly Clarkson became American Idol's first winner. She has since gone on to release three albums, Her debut album Thankful, second album Breakaway and this her third entitled My December. Whilst Thankful experimented with different styles this new album from the Texan reveals a rockier sound hinted at on her second release Breakaway.
1.) Never Again starts the album off with a catchy guitar part and then the orchestration comes in with thumping drums and Kelly's full pelt vocals are used to good effect, the track then develops with a harder guitar break. A very fine song to start of the album.
2.) One Minute brings the album away a little from her rockier side but still with the guitars. This song sounds like Girls Aloud at their absolute best. A disco rock song with a great beat and it's so catchy.
3.) Hole brings the album back on the rockier side with a superb guitar piece that you would associate with someone like Velvet Revolver as opposed to a Kelly Clarkson song. A brilliant track.
4.) Sober slows the album down a bit with an acoustic guitar and Kelly's sweet emotive vocals bring a great touch to the song. This song is about the months after the end of a relationship and getting over it.
5.) Don't waste your time is a slow rock song with Kelly showing off her vocal range, It's not the best of the songs on here but still a great track the track has a good message in that you should move on from relationships.
6.) Judas is another electro rock track with a great chorus. This song shows off the power in her voice and has a great melody.
7.) Haunted starts with a strange guitar part and then a drum comes in, The song starts slowly but then develops into a mix of pop and Evanescence. A very fine track indeed.
8.) Be Still is an interesting ballad that is the closest to R&B on the album. Kelly shows off the beauty in her voice with a tender voice. A Great slow track.
9.) Maybe is another slow track with an acoustic guitar, this is another great slow track falling in love but the other person being apprehensive going into the relationship.
10.) How I Feel is another track with crunching guitars but the track is a little softer than the other rockier tracks, It's a fine track with some nice backing vocal melodies.
11.) Yeah is another rock track that you would associate with some one else, this time the guitar intro sounds so much like John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers. A grea track and the best overall musically.
12.) Can I have a kiss starts with an Acoustic Guitar and a Bass, Kelly's voice is gentle and this is a great track that develops with an electric guitar and drums.
13.) Irvine is a fine way to finish off the album, a beautiful ballad performed only with an acoustic guitar, gentle strings and Kelly's voice. The most beautiful track on the album. simply magical.
There's also a bonus track on the end of the album with a nice guitar and Kelly sounding exactly like Pink on the slower tracks of her last album.
Overall this is a superb album and shows that Kelly Clarkson is as adept with full on rock tracks as she is with any other type of music she has done. You can um for just over £5 on amazon which is superb value for a new release.
Summary: A great album
