My Kind of Christmas was released by American singer Christina Aguilera in 2006 when she was at the peak of her career. As a fan of both Christina and Christmas music, I knew I would have to get this CD, which contains a mixture of classic and modern Christmas songs.
The songs on the album have a mid-2000s, RnB feel to them, particularly the more modern tracks. Christmas Time and This Year are funky, sexy songs which almost wouldn't be Christmassy at all if it wasn't for the lyrics. Xtina's Xmas is a similar-styled interlude. Merry Christmas, Baby has a more traditional feel to it, with a slower beat and a jazz-style backing. Christina's vocals really suit this style of music, reflected in the album Back to Basics which she released at around the same time as this festive CD. These Are the Special Times is another pleasant track, while This Christmas is an album highlight, a pleasant, uplifting and melodic song about a special Christmas, complete with brass instruments and other festive sounds. The Christmas Song is a strong interpretation of the classic, again with Christina's trademark strong vocals and RnB backing. I am less keen on the remix, which closes the album, as it is a little too dance-y for me.
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is my favourite Christmas song of all time, and no one in my opinion sings it better than Judy Garland. Christina's version is, however, very good. Her powerful vocals are surprisingly restrained during the track and the instrumental backing is subtle and delicate. She does let her voice soar towards the end of the song, but it sounds genuine rather than fake.
It's unusual for pop stars to record carols as opposed to commercial Christmas songs, so a couple of tracks on this album sound quite different. Angels We Have Heard On High is a relaxed, guitar-backed version of the hymn with a gospel chorus and a modern beat. Oh Holy Night begins promisingly: Christina does have a strong, powerful voice which manages this difficult carol easily, and again the backing is gentle and entirely appropriate. Unfortunately, about halfway through the song the music gives way to a spoken recital of the Lord's Prayer which is rather cringe worthy in my opinion. The track ends with a repetition of the chorus backed by a gospel choir, but again this is spoilt when the song seems to turn into a light-hearted jazz session.
Apart from this disappointing moment, I like this album and would recommend it to lovers of Christmas music. The album has both classic and modern elements and Christina's superb voice is on fine form. It is currently available very cheaply online, so you can add to your Christmas collection for a bargain price!

Christmas is coming...and I am getting quite excited. Each year, I like to add new 'items' to my Christmas collections; books, Cds and DVDs. Today, I will be reviewing a CD from my collection.
My Kind of Christmas is a Christmas CD from American Singer / Songwriter Christina Aguilera. The CD was released in the United Kingdom in 2006, although I think it was originally released in the United States of America in 2000. The CD is currently selling from Amazon for a price of £3.93 which I think is excellent value for money.

The first thing that stands out for me with this album is the fact that it is very different compared to a lot of other Christmas albums. A lot of artists just sing the same old songs; yet Christina tries some new ones which is good, as it means that the album is quite 'new' and 'refreshing'.
There are a lot of good songs on here. However, the one which is my favourite is definitely 'O Holy Night'. I love how Christina has personalised all of the songs, and I particularly like how she has made this one sound all 'jazzy'. I constantly have this one on repeat. I also like track number one: it makes me want to curl up by a roaring fire.
There are quite a few genres on this album; of course you have the Christmas genre, but then there is also some pop, R & B as well as gospel. I like the fact that she has had a go at different genres at it does not only show that she is a versatile artist, but it is also means that there is something on here to suit everyone's tastes.
Those of you who have heard of Christina Aguilera will know that she has a great voice; it's powerful and she can do a lot of 'fancy things' with it. She sounds good the majority of the time on this album. However, sometimes I do think that she does over do it just a bit on some of the songs. Some of the songs have quite simple musical arrangements and then she comes in with her big powerful voice and does too many 'fancy' things. I'm not saying that she sounds bad, just that sometimes I think 'calm down a bit!'.
I like how Christina has kept the same 'old fashion-ness' about Christmas yet has still managed to update it and modernise it, and so therefore I would say that young people as well as older people will like this CD. There is something really traditional about this CD.
I would definitely recommend this CD this Christmas. It is sure to get you in the Christmas mood.
Thank you for reading!

Christina Aguilera's 'My Kind of Christmas' is an enjoyable Christmas album, even if it may not be her best song-wise and vocally. Her vocals are still very powerful in this CD, but I feel she overdoes the melisma, which can make her sound like a typical 'diva', doing Mariah Carey's signature, if not irritating fussy note decorations.
1. Christmas Time - This is a fun start to the CD, starting off with fa-la-la's, which really does get you into the festive spirit.
3. Have Yourself A Merry Christmas - Aguilera really does do justice to this classic. Sung beautifully.
4. Angels We Have Heard On High - A pretty poor arrangement of the traditional hymn, it really is nothing special, and is a poor pop cover.
5. Merry Christmas Baby - a fun song, sung with a male singer. Perhaps one of the less innocent songs so far.
6. Oh Holy Night - a beautiful cover of this classic. Aguilera certainly makes it different and has a slight jazzy twist at the end.
9. The Christmas Song - Another brilliant cover. Not anything more special than other covers I've heard, but still a lovely song, with beautiful vocals.
11. The Christmas Song (Holiday Remix) - A poor remix of this classic, like so many remixes that seem to kill the original.
"My Kind Of Christmas" came out in 2000 and was the first Christmas album for the Pop singer Christina Aguilera. Coming directly off her debut album, which was then re-recorded in Spanish, it was released prior to her "Stripped" years and so has her in a position where she was much more accessible to the 'family' market. Here she mixes traditional carols with well-covered Christmas classic and some of her own original ones.
We see that Christina opens up the album with a track that I felt made a strong impression as it shows that here she is down to bring an album that reflects how her debut album sounded with the heavy R&B influence, but she ensured that it sounded as though it stuck to the main 'Christmas' themes. It was one of only two singles from the album, and I felt that it was a nice way to get it underway.
We see that she comes in with another fresh tune (a non-cover) here and she brings in the same Hip Hop-tinged feel with this one as was sprinkled through her debut album. I felt that it was a great way for her to show just how well she is able to pull in listeners through her great vocal performance, rather than doing so through the familiarity of well-known songs in this style to get half-way there in attracting listeners.
3."Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
We get our first turn towards some more common Christmas material this time around as we have her getting down to a song that was originally sung by Judy Garland in 1944, and she shows just how timeless the song is and how it still seems relevant by this point as she puts her own spin on it by making the most out of what her voice will allow her to by going to both ends of her extensive vocal range.
4."Angels We Have Heard On High"
We see that here she gets another opportunity to do the same sort of thing as she had just done on te last one, but on this occasion I felt as though the style of the prodcution was highly noteworthy as we see that as well as the added touches that give it a Christmas feel, it has a sound taken from the mid-nineties R&B field, but done in a way that bring it up to 2000 and makes it feel right with all the added Hip Hop influence making for a nice way to re-make a traditional carol.
5."Merry Christmas, Baby"
Here we get the first hints of the Christina that we would come to see for the 2006 "Back To Basics" album as we find that here we get a jazzy little tune from her and one that has her moving towards the Soul, Blues and Jazz music of the '20s through to the '40s and doing a great job of making it fit right in with the Christmas themes (by showing that it doesn't seem too 'alternative' to be attempting such a thing.
6."Oh Holy Night"
Here she gets down to another traditional piece and we get the chance to see just how effectively she is able to mould her voice around the basic structure of the song. As you would expect, she doesn't seem to stick too rigidly to the way that it is typically done, but with such a voice as hers, you can't really hold yourself back and only give half of what can potentially come through, as does here.
7."These Are The Special Times"
Not particularly Christmas-y I felt that this was a strong track for the singer and one that has her going for another emotive one where she is able to really come up with the goods as she does all that you would expect of her when it comes to her vocal performance and the rest seems to fall into place as we get a nice mix of R&B and the Pop sound of that time in the rest of the compostion to make her feel welcome.
Here Christina goes for some material that is known mostly to be performed by R&B-based musicians, and she has a go at really making it fit right in with all the things that have already been heard by her on this album with. However, I felt as though it was an opportunity to liven things up as she is backed by some energetic production, which is laced with lots of Funk to make it sound complete.
9."The Christmas Song"
On this one we see that her 'Old School' influence comes into play as she goes back to cover a little something that was originally done by Nat King Cole and managing to see room to connect with the kind of thing that she does in 2000. You can't say that this doesn't occur as she finds a compromise by stripping it down to her singing with just a piano on her side and reaching some of the highest notes she was ever capable of.
10."Xtina's Xmas" (Lude)
11."The Christmas Song" (Remix)
Christina chooses to end the album off by being lifted massively by the Hip Hop interlude in order to bring out a dance remix to the first single from the album. Personally I felt as though the over-the-top beats that were simply added over the top of the original version were nothing but off-putting and I felt that it did nothing but spoil all that had happened through the album elsewhere.
If you ignore what happened with the last song, you have to say that this is one of the best Pop Christmas albums of recent times. She does a good job at nailing old tunes that all know and making you connect with a few new ones she she and some others had thrown together to sound as though she was attempting to re-create the feel of Mariah Carey's 1994 Christmas release.
I was just searching through my cd collection to try and tidy it up abit and came across My Kind of Christmas by Christina Aguilera, so I thought why not? I might as well review it.
I know were all not in the mood for Christmas (yet) but I am already saving for it as every year my account gets cleared and I end up skint all January into February. But during the Christmas period this is a great cd, full of happy new and also traditional songs.
My Kind of Christmas was released in 2000, though from memory it wasnt really heavily promoted, you can buy it in most good music stores around £5, which isnt too bad as you will want to take it out for a listen to every year over the Christmas Period.
The song list for My Kind Of Christmas is:
1.) Christmas Time
2.) This Year
3.) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
4.) Angels We Have Heard On High
5.) Merry Christmas, Baby
6.) Oh Holy Night
7.) These Are Special Times
8.) This Christmas
9.) The Christmas Song
10.) Xtinas Xmas
11.) The Christmas Song (holiday remix)
As you can see there is a good range of tracks on this album, some new ones and some more traditional ones, these songs are really great to get you into the Christmas Spirit and are sang beautifully by Christina as she has an amazing and powerful voice.
If you can get your hands on this one around Christmas and are a fan of Christina Aguilera then I reccommend it without a doubt.
Christina’s back with her brand new album ‘STRIPPED’ not only does it have 20 songs on it! or the fact that she’s collaborated with the likes of Lil’ Kim, Redman and Alicia Keys, its an amazing piece of work from the young artist. Stripped has plenty of gritty, R&B-flavoured hip-hop, rock and even some drum & bass tunes on it. And instead of lots of ballads, she offers up some soulful tracks like the one with Alicia Keys, and even some gospel type tunes on there too. Yes one hell of a diverse album, especially if you compare it to her debut album Christina Aguilera. Lets take a look and see track by track on what the album is like ======================================================================= 1) - Stripped Pt. 1 A short sort of interlude which introduces the album with grace. What a wicked way to start the album. It starts with lots of different interviews all saying things about Christina then she breaks in. Luv how short n snappy it is, the lyrics being deep and meaningful. An R’n’B feel too. “Sorry I break the mold, sorry that I speak my mind, sorry don't do what I'm told, sorry if I don't fake it, sorry I come too real, I will never hide what I really feel, huh, so here it is, no hype, no gloss, no pretense, just me, Stripped” 05/05 ======================================================================= 2) - Can't Hold Us Down featuring Lil' Kim Hay hay, the first full song on the album and what a song it is. With the help of her close mate Lil’ Kim hopefully this could be a single. Full on R’nB with a bit of hip hop feel. All about how men get away with sleeping with whoever they want and not getting called anything. Yet if a woman does it then she’s classed as a s**t! Quite naughty lyrics but it’s the new Christina now so get used to it. “This is for my girls all around th
e world, who've come across a man who don't respect your worth, thinking all women should be seen not heard, so what do we do girls? shout louder! letting them know we're gonna stand our ground, lift your hands high and wave them proud take a deep breath and say it loud, never can, never will, can't hold us down” 10/10 ======================================================================= 3) - Walk Away Now the first ballad of the album, not that easy to listen to I must say but it is good. Its totally different from the normal ballads she’s previously done, its very gospel! Good lyrics deep and meaningful which is what most of the album is like. Please listen to this track if ya got the album and let me know what ya think? “Cos I, I keep going right back, to the one thing that I need to walk away from, I need to get away from it, I need to walk away from it, get away, walk away, walk away” 06/10 ======================================================================= 4) - Fighter An excellent track I luvs it I does haha. So powerful and strong, shows of her voice tremendously. I love the lyrics to this track about how you can fight ya way through anything as long as you put your mind to it! This has gone into a rock sound which has now shown the diversity in the album so far. I think this could easily be a single to, very catchy it’ll have you singing it all day long. “Cause it makes me that much stronger, makes me work a little bit harder, it makes me that much wiser, so thanks for making me a fighter, made me learn a little bit faster, made my skin a little bit thicker, makes me that much smarter, so thanks for making me a fighter” 10/10 =======================================================================5) - Primer Amor Interlude (Interlude) A little interlude which introduces the next track. She speaks in Spanish and it’s
a very Spanish feel tune with the Spanish guitars etc. She got the lyrics for this in her cover so I’ll put them in lol not sure what they mean tho but im guessing its about an infatuation with someone you love. “Yo te contare una historia, de como un puertoriqueño me robo el corazon, nunca mas he vuelto a amar de esa manera, quizas jamas lo hare, es la historia de mi primer amor , era buen mozo con grandes y profundos ojos marrones, un bailarin, juntos nos perdimos en el ritmo del amor, asi es como comenzo” 04/05 ======================================================================= 6) - Infatuation As mentioned in the interlude for this track, its got a Spanish feel and some Spanish words. A lushous song which is very warm and easy listening. It’s all about her infatuation with a boy. Nice mid-tempo track and still keeping up the diversity of the album. “I am full blood boricua, read the tattoo on his arm, he tells me, mami I need ya, and my heartbeat pumps so strong, getting lost in el ritmo, he whispers te quiero, te quiero, I begin to give in with no hesitation, can't help my infatuation, It's pure infatuation” 08/10 ======================================================================= 7) - Loves Embrace (Interlude) Another interlude which again introduces the next track, and what a soul-full tracks these two are. “Ooo you make me want to fly, crying sky on that mountain, I'm so so afraid, afraid of love's embrace” 04/05 ======================================================================= 8) - Loving Me For Me A very chilled track which doesn’t really go anywhere but is very pleasant to listen to. Very slow but nice. It reminds me a bit of Mariah Carey’s Music Box song (Album Music Box) & Mariah Carey’s Bliss song (Album Rainbow) Very sweet and soft. Her voices is lush in this and
its very gentle no harshness at all. “Your lips, your love, your smile, your kiss, I must admit it's a part of me, you please me, complete me, believe me, like a melody, your soul, your flow, your youth, your truth is simply proof, we were meant to be, but the best quality thats hookin' me, is that you're loving me for me, is that you're loving me for me” 09/10 ======================================================================= 9) - Impossible The track with Alicia Keys. Alicia doesn’t sing just accompanies Christina with her talent on the piano. Full of soul and sounds like a deffo Alicia song. Christina’s voice suits this type of track. Easy to listen to, slow tempo with the piano taking the lead of the instruments. Luv this tune “It's impossible, it's impossible to love you, if you don't let me know what you're feeling, it's impossible for me to give you what you need, if you're always hidin' from me” 10/10 ======================================================================= 10) - Underappreciated Picking up the tempo a little with this cheeky little number. Another easy listening track, very very catchy!! I like how she sings aggressively on the Under-appreciated. Kinda like the old stuff but with a little twist of the new Christina. It’s about how someone feels under-appreciated in a relationship. “What happened to those days when, you used to be compassionate, caring what I thought and said, so attentive gentleman, now it's hard to turn your head away from the TV set, taking me for granted lately, frankly, it's gotta quit” 08/10 ======================================================================= 11) - Beautiful My favourite track on the album. A ballad very soft with a loud chorus. Hardly no music in the background showing Christina’s voice o
ff to the max. It reminds me of the Beatles style in music. Very meaningful about not letting anyone make you think your not beautiful when you are! “I am beautiful no matter what they say, words can't bring me down, I am beautiful in every single way, yes, words can't bring me down, oh no, so don't you bring me down today” 10/10 ======================================================================= 12) - Make Over I’m not a fan of this track much at all. It’s dead rock but really hard to listen to, after such a nice ballad this kicks in and ya gotta turn your system down. Her voice is very very aggressive in this track and is sometimes to much to listen to. Should have left this off the album! “I don't need nobody trying to make me over (make me over), I just wanna live simple and free, I just wanna get away, save it all your bullshit, for another day” 04/10 ======================================================================= 13) - Cruz Slow’d down again but with another wicked track. A deffo 10/10 as it’s a very easy listening track just like ‘Beautiful’ but at the same time totally different to it. Again hardly no music in the background but its so chilling and the chorus is so catchy. I know you’ll all like this one :-) “The heat is rising and my head soars through the wind, cool, calm, collective is a child that lost a thing, I'm leaving today, I'm living it, I'm leaving it to change” 10/10 ======================================================================= 14) - Soar Another nice and easy listening tune. Mid tempo some nice beats and her voice is well suited to the track and style. Style being poppy with an r’n’b influence. It’s about finding your own path in life and when you do, open up with style and take every second with grace.
“Don't be scared, to fly alone, find a path that is your own, love will open every door, see in your hands the world is yours, don't hold back and always know, all the answers you will unfold, what are you waiting for, spread your wings and soar” 08/10 ======================================================================= 15) - Get Mine, Get Yours A wicked track with a wicked start, listen to it and you’ll see what I mean, voice is amazing in this song, quite high but strong at the same time. All about two people her getting her bit from him, and him getting his bit from her, if ya get what I mean. Mid-tempo again but with a fast beat. Pop feel here “Can you put your hands my waistline, want your skin up against mine, move my hips to the baseline, let me get mine, you get yours, hang a please don't disturb sign, put my back into a slow grind, sending chills up and down my spine, let me get mine, you get yours” 09/10 ======================================================================= 16) - Dirrty featuring Redman ‘Dirrty’ is the first single to be released from this album ‘Stripped’, what can I say?!?!? One hell of a track with one hell of a video. Amazing tune did I say how wicked the video was lol. A good collaboration and a good start to a new Christina. Totally R’n’B feel loud and aggressive. Already been a smash spending 2 weeks at number one in the UK. It was written and produced by Christina along with "Lady Marmalade" producer Rockwilder, and features Redman. “Gonna get rowdy, gonna get a little unruly, get it fired up in a hurry, wanna get dirty, it's about time that I came to start the party, sweat drippin' over my body, dancin' gettin' just a little naughty, wanna get dirty, it's about time for my arrival” ================================================================
======= 17) - Stripped Pt. 2 The second part to Stripped as the title states, with her telling us she’s gonna keep high and keep pushing on! Very short 45 seconds long with a bit of singing and talking. “Sorry if I ain't perfect, sorry I don't give a what, sorry I ain't a diva, sorry just know what I want, sorry I'm not a virgin, sorry I'm not a slut, I won't let you break me, think what you want, to all my dreamers out there - I'm with you, all my underdogs, ha - I feel you, lift your head high and stay strong, keep pushin' on” 04/05 ======================================================================= 18) - A Voice Within A slow start with a very quite voice from Christina, then after the first chorus the drums kick in making it a mid tempo track. Then in the bridge after the second chorus it gets very dramatic with a full choir and violins goin’ mental. Then kicks back to the original sound and then ends like the beginning – slowly. “When there's no one else, look inside yourself, like your oldest friend, just trust the voice within, then you'll find the strength, that will guide your way, if you will learn to begin, to trust the voice within” 09/10 ======================================================================= 19) - I'm OK A very sad song! It’s all about her telling the story of a broken family. About a father hitting his wife while the little girl who’s singing was up in her room listening to the rows. Christina’s voice is very different in this track. She makes her voice sound upset as if she’s crying while singing. Very skill-full if you ask me! The song is mainly accompanied by an acoustic guitar. A very dramatic ballad in all “Everytime my father's fist would put her in her place, hearing all the yelling I would cry up in my room, hoping it would
be over soon, bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same, and I still remember how you kept me so afraid, strength is my mother for all the love she gave, every morning that I wake I look back to yesterday, and I'm OK” 09/10 ============================================================= 20) - Singing My Song The most diverse track on this album. Starts off with hardly no music in the background, Christina's voice and a choir. With the tune building up, slight beats appearing in the second verse. Then in the bridge the music stops! Just Christina singing. Then she blast out a a note for ages with the choir in the background “Aah-ing” then bursts into some drum ‘n’ bass. Wicked if you ask me. Luv this track, listening to it – pure brilliance. “I see every lesson completely, I thank God for what I got from above, I believe they can take anything from me, but they can't succeed in taking my inner peace, they can say all they wanna say about me, but I'm gonna carry on, keep on singing my song” 10/10 ======================================================================= Well after this review if you read it all, long I know but that’s because its one hell of an album. All I can say is pure class and much better than her debut album. If ya getting it as a Christmas prezzie then ya getting a wicked prezzie! One amazing album and it’ll be interesting to see what songs she releases. One more comment on this album : “If ya haven’t got it, then ya missing out! Especially if ya like Christina and her ‘Dirrty’ video hehe”
I saw this album around the Christmas Holidays and didn’t think twice about getting this album as I've got the other two and was looking for a Xmas album and thought that this would do because she is a great singer! I am in no way disappointed by this album. It was great to listen to during the Christmas period and still is! I was getting so bored of the traditional Christmas tunes at that time and I thought that Christian’s voice would liven it up a bit. This album is certainly livelier. A lot of Xmas Hits including Have Yourself a Merry Christmas and Oh Holy Night have been brought to life by this singer! The first song, Christmas Time, is a great Lively song which incorporated the traditional sound but with more beats and decorated noted etc. A modern written song which opens the album perfectly! 9/10 I love the next song. This Year is a great thumping track, which reminds me of Destiny's Child or an R&B song with the soft singing then the chorus livens it all up! 9.5/10 Have Yourself a merry Christmas is also a great song and As I love to sing and practice singing, this song is really good as it uses the vocal range a lot. A lovely soft and gentle tune with music box opening the song. 10/10 Angels we have heard on high has a great choir accompanying the song and is a duet with a male singer. A great gospel type song, which climaxes well. 8.5/10 Merry Christmas Baby is a very seductive song, which sounds rather sexual, as it is very suggestive. A rather old fashioned sounding song to start off with an old fashioned piano accompanies. It includes Olde Langsigne. A blues type song. 8/10 MY ALL TIME FAVE OFF THIS ALBUM!!! O Holy Night is just amazing and is always mind blowing everytime I hear it! Its begins rather softly with Christina warbling gently and then it begins. She puts all she’s got I this song and it certainly shows! This song is a great song to sin
g to as it stretches your range and I often use it for singing practice, Aguilera is just amazing on this song with soaring climaxes and a great voice, she can't do no wrong. This song takes and instrumental break and when it comes back it just blows you away! She is accompanied by the gospel choir when she returns and is just brilliant! You need to hear this song to believe it! 100000/10! These are special times then takes over and is rather sultry in style, to me this song wasn’t very impressive dunno why. 7/10 The next song seems to begin like a gameshow and called This Christmas. rather a bit cheesy. again with trumpets etc. 7.5/10 The Christmas song, begins with bell tolls, which starts it off well then a piano comes in. A great Christmas tune with a great relaxing voice. 8/10 Xtina's Christmas, is a great upbeat track and is everything that Christmas songs are not! Fun and jazzy more dance like. 8/10 The last song is a remix version of The Christmas song which is just amazing I didn’t know a Christmas song could sound like this and believe that this was a perfect ending to a great Xmas album which is very modern and upto date. 10/10 This album is just great and definitely got me into the Christmas mood. I think that Christina should have released one of the tracks around Xmas, as it was a great time to release such a song of which would have done really well! I’m still listening to this album on times but I’m sure Ill be playing it every Christmas time as its very my style of music compared to all this carol rubbish constantly. This album also has a Enhanced CD section which includes a link to her site and a video of one of the songs which is also nice to look at. *Tip* :- You can probably pick this CD up now for a cheaper price now as the season is now over and you can listen to it straight away or wait till Christmas and listen to it
then. As this is a Christmas album you wouldn’t want to be without!
