Advantages: original, great lyrics, not one track sounds like the other
Disadvantages: --
The Klaxons are one of my favourite bands at the moment, bringing something new to the British music scene, with their sound which is deemed as ‘new – rave’. Hailing from the likes of Bournemouth and Stratford upon Avon they are a great new talent and are doing very well for themselves at the moment. I first heard of the Klaxons through friends and from continuous playing of their single ‘Golden Skans’ on Radio 1, I eventually grew to like the song and this prompted me to want to hear more. After hearing their next single ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ I realised I liked their sound and purchased their album ‘Myths Of The Near Future’.
This album is not one which I can honestly say go buy if you like the singles because not one song is like the other. You can tell it is the same band on every track but each song is unique in its own way and this is why I like the album. They just played a sold out UK tour in May and this summer are continuing to tour with the festival season coming up. They also have advanced tickets on their website for their winter tour which officially go on sale this Friday.

1. TWO RECEIVERS: This song starts of with a drum beat and then the singing comes in. It’s quite a calm song with a slow rhythm to it. I think with this band the vocals really make the music because all notes are reached and the sound is very distinct. Also they have a good use of words in their lyrics; the language is very advanced so that it isn’t really easy to tell what the song is about. I think this song is ok, it isn’t the best song off the album but it is quite a relaxed sound.
2. ATLANTIS TO INTERZONE: This is one of my favourite songs from this album; it’s so powerful it starts instantly with a very electronic sound, and an alarm noise going on through it the whole time. It has an eerie feel to it but I really like it as it’s very different. The vocals then come in sang at a very quick pace to keep up with the music but it all works very successful. Then the chorus changes and it becomes more sort of a shouting type singing, very much like that of ‘The Automatic’. I personally think this song is about science fiction and how it can take you anywhere and opens up the imagination to anything.
3. GOLDEN SKANS: This is probably one of the more relaxing songs on the album that many would like. It starts with the ‘ooooooh ah’ sound and this is instantly catchy and caught my attention right away. The singing is very soft and fits in nicely with the chilled out music. There is no quick changes of music in this song so it was the perfect choice for a single. This song got the album more sales and them higher into the album chart. The video for this song is really strange, it seems to be them floating around and being trapped by ribbons, I don’t personally like it but I’m sure it has some sort of a complicated meaning. To me this song is about someone being inspired and wanting their dreams to become reality by breaking out of the rules of society.
7. GRAVITY’S RAINBOW: I love this song, another single from the album and very good singing. The vocals are high pitched as usual on a steady paced bit of music. It is repetitive but I do like the song, the chorus is catchy and easy to sing a long to. The video as usual is different because they like unusual videos. It’s an arty video and every line seems to have a different scene acted out to fit it.
9. MAGICK: This song starts with a steady beat then the electronic music comes in and the singing. The singing isn’t as tuneful in this song it is more shouty and off key but I think this was the idea. Then it slows down to a short paced piece of singing. I wouldn’t know where to begin to describe what this song is about with lyrics like ‘The way to mother noose, the way to suck an egg’. It has a great sound to it this song though, very original.
Overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something different to listen to. The Klaxons are a very talented band and if you haven’t had a listen already you really should. The album is £6.98 on Amazon and if you want to find out more about the band go to their official website http://www.klaxons.net or their myspace to hear music at http://www.myspace.com/klaxons
