Advantages: Duet with Johnny Cash

Disadvantages: A little short

A dramatic departure from previous releases, with Dylan going all out country, having sewn the seeds on 'John Wesley Harding', this was a moment where Dylan turned his back, not for the first time, on the establishment which had embraced him, and re-defined himself again.

His voice is disarmingly different throughout, apparently due to his giving up of cigarettes, as he performs in a smooth croon throughout, much different to the rasping delivery found on his earlier work.

'Lay Lady Lay' is the most well known track here, although a re-worked 'Girl From the North Country', performed as a duet with Johnny Cash, proves equally worthwhile.

Clocking in at just 27 minutes, it's Dylan's shortest album, but the tracks contained within are good enough to keep you coming back, a delightful, left field album which will surprise as much as it thrills. Country-Rock, a genre usually credited to Gram Parsons, owes a sizeable debt to 'Nashville Skyline'.

Summary: Dylan goes Country..

One of my favourites, despite the 27 mins.
