In 1984 I was a 14 year old man and I fell in love with a certain young girl on the telly when she sang "Hurwy Hurwy Super Skurry Send the twoops out in a hurwy" (From 99 Luft Balloons). Then she just disappered from American pop culture, only to pop up intermittetenly on "One Hit wonders" and "80's Specials" and an occasional homage at Karaoke Bars.

In the meantime she had 4 children and had her own TV show for children in Germany. Her band had disbanded (why would anyone give up a keyboard player named Uwe Fahrenkrog-petersen?). She moved away from Pop Music taking an occasional German tour where she played more of a hard rock a la Pat Benatar rather than Pop. She did a lot of kid's music and did some voice work on cartoons.

Now she is back and better than ever, I mean have you seen the video for Anytime Anyplace Anyway? She is singing it with Kim Wilde? They are the two hottest 40ish babes on earth!!!! The black leather trench coats, how they coo the same lines, Nena in German and Kim in English? "Wrap your fingers round my neck you don't speak my dialect, let the images reflect....."

Anyways the album being reviewed here is from Dusseldorf in 1998. Yeah, I know, it is pretty rude to go to Dusseldorf to record a live album, as my mental health deteriorates I get very nasty about little things but Dusseldorf belongs to the Toten Hosen and it is offensive that anyone else tries to do anything in their hometown, musically. The album is recorded in the Century Hall in front of 40,000 fans. It is a mix of her classics along with the songs from her then current tour of "If everything is alright, something is a matter"

I think that when someone does a live album they need to play alll their songs that they can remember and then when they can't play no more do some Led Zepplin and van Halen cover tunes with some people from the audience on stage with them. I think that the meager 14 songs is a good mix and a good sample of her work but this album is not as complete as some of teh double CD live albums that are out and about.

Thank you for letting me talk about Nena, I still love Nena hagen or Kerner or whatever name she uses this week. I have been basically dehabiliatated as of late and can no longer take care of myself or make good decisions. All I do is sit at home and play with my Karaoke machine and I sing all of Nena's songs along with her. I play guitar while I sing. I just can't write no more. I am broken. I just can't write. I am starting an organization to re-unite America as a british possesion.

Summary:
