Nevermind - nirvana
The great thing about the album "nevermind" by nirvana is that every song has an unbelievable jagged edge to it,. The three members of Nirvana are front man (singer\songwriter) kurt Cobain, dave grohl (drummer) and krist noveselic (guitar). Kurt also plays the guitar throughout all songs aswell as singing and dave is a backing vocalist.
Nevermind released in 1991 is an Indie Rock and punk (Grunge) based album which consists of 12 amazing tracks. The first song - Smells like teen spirit starts the album off to a dark emotional beginning, and as the song starts with a powerful rocky edge the deepness of the music comes crashing in and takes over. Kurts voice sounding rough and almost crying out his words. This song became "The one that everyone new " and it became a huge success.
Throughout the album the songs are still edgy and dark, "In bloom is the second song on "Nevermind"and is quite different to the first song as its not as loud but it is still deep and rocky with powerful chords and drums. Kurts distinctive voice makes the song sound amazing. The third song on the album is called "come as you are" this again is different and starts with a catchy guitar intro. The song itself is quite mellow and meaningful.
Moving through the album song number 4 is called "Breed" this one is very up beat and quite fast with a rough sounding intro and carrying on like this through the whole song , again with kurt repeating alot of his words.
Song number 5 is called "Lithium" again an amazing song with a good guitar intro sounding quite euphoric and is great with the way kurt sings his lyrics all the way through. The next song is number six called "Polly" this is very slow and completley different to the others but sang quite low with just the guitar in the background.
Song 7 is called "Territorial pi**ings" this is more like very heavy metal sounding with kurt screaming his lyrics loudly all through this song but its amazing and a good one for the heavier rockers out there.
Number 8 is called "Drain you", and it starts with the guitars but with changeable chords also brilliantly wrote and quite cryptic in a way if you had to explain the words. "lounge Act" is the ninth song which is again starting with the guitar only , then bringing the drums in with a catchy edge to the tune ( A very likeable song ) towards the end becoming much more powerful with the vocals.
Number 10 is called "Stay Away" and what can i say, its another good song sounding like kurt is half talking ,half singing the words at the beginning then it gets more Intense as the guitars and drums come in again. It also gets loud vocaly towards the end. Track 11 is "On a Plain" and it begins with the vocals straight away along wityh the guitars ( The words quite spacey like mixed up in a way). The chorus is just quite calm with the guitars and drums still playing and kurts singing "im on a plain, I cant complain". The ending is quite gentle with kurt humming. Track 12 is the last song on the cd ( Although there is a secret song that comes in 20 mins after the last song called "Endless Nameless") this last song is called "Something in the way" and it is very slow to the point were some people may find it quite depressing or sad, kurt sounds sad vocaly in this song all the way through with just the guitar playing and a violin gently playing along. The song sounds slightly out of tune with just 2 chords being played in the verses.
The secret song on the "Nevermind" album is called "Endless Nameless" when you think the c.d has finished ( If left on 20 mins later) It just bursts in all of a sudden with a guitar blasting then a more heavy intro with the drums and a fuzzy heavy sound a bit like on breed comes in, this goes on like this for a while untill kurt starts screaming his vocals, this song goes on for quite a while with guitars changing their sounds throughout. The song ends after a quite a while with a chinking sound it just fades out.
The whole album, In my experience is Brilliant and a real good selection of tracks for all types of Rockers out there. I have found that it is one of the greatest rock albums out there. I hope you find this review usefull. thankyou.
Summary: One of kurt cobains best albums.
