The guitarist Ali Farke Toure is one of the leading artists of the West African nation of Mali and an internationally respected musician, with a unique technique and repertoire. The music of this sand-poor dustbowl country at the edge of the Sahara is peculiarly strong, with renowned and prolific performers in a number of local styles, and on a caravan's cargo of unfamiliar oddball instruments, particularly strings- the multi-stringed kora, the guitar, the njarka (one string violin) and njurkle (traditional guitar). Nice side helping for folk metal fans. Doesn't offer much original material.

Perfectly composed and executed symphonic doom metal. Twinkly keyboards are slightly irritating in Chapter VIII.

Band still continues to evolve. Cluttered and chaotic, loses the folk elements.
Unorthodox - Edge Of Sanity
Experimental death metal, foreshadowing major sub-genres. Overlong.
Purgatory Afterglow - Edge Of Sanity
Approachable death metal. Too many weak songs and failed attempts to combine genres.
Crimson Ii - Edge Of Sanity
If you liked the first one, you'll probably enjoy this too. Re-treads old ground, and doesn't have its predecessor's charm or talent.
Infernal - Edge Of Sanity
A couple of enjoyable death metal songs, retaining some progressive elements. Weak attempts to return to the old-school, and lazy performance.

Admirable ambition. Boring, with very few interesting ideas.
