Night Electric Night is this year's release from Swedish Industrial Metal band Deathstars, Deathstars tend to get poppier each album they make and in doing so I'm not sure if it reduces or increases their fan base. Fusing catchy dance beats with a bit of melodic metal and clear yet slightly robotic vocals they come across as The Sisters of Mercy in a pet shop.
Being honest, apart from a few industrial metal bands (Rob Zombie & Stahlhammer) - it's not a genre I care for much. The male vocals on this album are exceptionally stylish though, some of the melodies are reasonable and the bass playing is quite funky. Female backing vocals sneak in on some of the tracks and give it a corny Evanescence sound which I despise. Likewise the band's whitened faces with died black hair and fetish for uniforms is equally less unique.
If you were to judge a book by a cover, the chances are you wouldn't even bother listening to this but musically and particularly vocally it was actually a pleasant surprise. Chertograd, Night Electric Night and Blood Stains Blondes are all really quite reasonable songs in a cheesy kind of way.
