Advantages: Sounds like an Offical soundtrack for a Silmarillion movie!

Disadvantages: Not a virtous album with amazing guitar solos and instrumental parts

This is for me the best Blind Guardian album ever.

Blind Guardian (from Germany) have Tolkien as it's Big Inspiration on their music. This album is based in one of his books - "The Silmarillion". Tolkien wrote a number of stories, including most famously The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of the Rings (1954-1955), which are set in a pre-historic era in an invented version of the world which he called by the Middle English name of Middle-earth. This was peopled by Men (and women), Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs and of course Hobbits. He has regularly been condemned by the Eng. Lit. establishment, with honourable exceptions, but loved by literally millions of readers worldwide.

[Well -- any RPG player (search for RPG on dooyoo) knows who Tolkien was. Basically, Tolkien was the inspiration for the first RPG games (and he still is at present day!)]

The result is an amazing mix of melodic/epic metal following an amazing storyline. The song "The Curse of Fëanor" stars with war drumms that makes you feel like you're in the middle of a battle field! The vocal lines are supperb. The chorus of Nightfall, Noldor and Thorn can clearly show the excellent production of this album.

I love this album, only problem is the poor acting on all those interludes that I have to skip. I could never be bothered to read any Tolkein, so this is substitute (and it sounds cooler than a book does)
