far removed from anything they ve done before.If you check the comments on the Spiralling YouTube video you ll see how the song has divided the listeners. Some people, especially Keane s longstanding fans, feel that Spiralling is a mess of a track, with none of the classic Keane beauty or sensitivity. Others see it as an excellent change in direction. Personally, I enjoy the track for it s shapr guitar lead riff and wide variety of sonic textures and, of course, Tom Chaplin s excellent vocals. Under the Iron Sea is K Keane s follow-up album to their well received 2004 debut album, Hopes & Fears and whilst it is unmistakably Keane, at the same time it sounds different. The album sounds bigger and somewhat braver than their previous offering - but bigger doesn t always mean better... I d class myself as Keane fan, I enjoyed their first album and I ve seen them live twice, but after a week of listening to Under the Iron Sea , for me at least, there are just not as many high points as on Hopes & Fears . Track 11, the curiously titled, Frog Prince and Track 5 ‘A Bad Dream’ are as close to the ‘typical’ Keane sound as the album gets, and are both good ...
