This little beauty landed on my doormat around 9am this morning and it is now 15:35 and this is still being played over and over again on my CD player and no I'm still not bored of it, maybe that has something to do with the fact that it's virtually impossible to find in the United Kingdom and this delivery has ended my long search for musical bliss? There is actually only one problem with this album - its import only, thats right if you want to hear a quality album you're going to have to pay a little more money to get it (It's cost me £17.72 in total from amazon) but don't let that put you off No Angel because its worth every penny. So onto the actual album itself then - we open up on the haunting Roswell High theme 'Here with me', which it has to be said is easily the best track on the album and the full length version that you get here really showcases the talents that Dido has, but having said that this doesn't mean that the rest of the album is bad, all of the songs here are good it's just that this one stands out a little bit more. All through the album there are songs that have a lot of different meanings to them such as the vengance of the track 'Don't think of me' which tells the tale of a woman who has been dumped by her boyfriend only for him to move on to a woman who cheats all the time, or theres even another of my Favourites on here - 'Thankyou' a simple song that is talking about the way one person makes Dido feel and even the track 'Hunter' which again tells a different tale this time of a woman who is trying to escape a relationship. Now I know that the songs mentioned in the above paragraph are all talking about one thing - Love, but they are all performed in such a wide variety of styles that makes you sometimes have to check and make sure that Dido is a solo artist and not a band with more than one singer. But once again a lot of you are
going to be asking what was it that made me buy this album - well, to start off with there was the theme of Roswell High which I found myself humming all day every day, but as I've said before one song does not make an album and because of this I held back from buying for a little while however when I bought Eminem's latest album there was a track featuring Dido called 'Stan' and once again you got to see the true range of talents Dido has and after that I was determined to find the album at a price I could afford and of course if you ask in the shops you either get told that they can't import it or you get given a ridiculously high price between 30 and 40 pounds, so thats where the Internet comes into play and good old Amazon offered the goods at a price I could afford. Anyway back to the album again, if you've got the Eminem album and like Dido's contributions to the track then you'll be shocked to find out that whats actually happened here is Eminem sampling the track 'Thankyou' and crediting Dido on the case of 'The Marshall Mathers LP' but if you thought the snippets you heard on 'Stan' were good then buy this album and you will be blown away. * Update * This album is even easier to buy now, its just been given a general UK release, and as I type this its in the "2 for £22" offer at Virgin!

- 28/04/01 I agree, probably the best album of the year. One of the few albums I listen to the whole way through every time. |
