Advantages: Less showy.

Disadvantages: Indecipherable vocals.

Coroner's third album moves on from 'Punishment for Decadence,' but is equally impressive for trying something new, and continuing to stretch the previously repetitive thrash genre to its limits without becoming inaccessible. Tommy Vetterli's guitars are still the main ingredient, but are toned down in their prominence this time to achieve a more rounded sound, and one that helps this to work as a standard thrash release rather than something consciously technical or progressive.

Ron Broder's vocals have shifted to a tone reminiscent of Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, which makes the listening experience that little bit more frustrating as it can be hard to decipher what he's actually saying. That doesn't stop the simplistic yelled chorus of 'Die By My Hand' being one of the album's finest moments, backed up by a great guitar whine, and there's still enough variety here, relatively speaking, for this album to be replayed numerous times without becoming stale.

1. Die By My Hand
2. No Need to Be Human
3. Read My Scars
4. D.O.A.
5. Mistress of Deception
6. Tunnel of Pain
7. Why It Hurts
8. Last Entertainment

Summary: Coroner's third album (1989).
