One of Rotting Christ's greatest achievements

Released back in 1994, Rotting Christ's second full length album, 'Non Serviam' continues to offer the fast, frenetic, and claustroplobic occult/Hellenic black metal style demonstrated on their earlier debut 'Thy Mighty Contract', but 'Non Serviam' is a more varied and engaging beast, mixing harsh, barren, yet dreamy and atmospheric synth-drenched passages with laid back, rocky and harmonised NWOBHM guitar melodies, with organic and dynamic songstructures and some fantastic anthemic moments, particularly on the album title-track.

Non Serviam is perhaps the closest thing to the band's stellar 2007 return to form 'Theogonia', but whereas 'Theogonia' has a massive and bombastic production, the production on 'Non Serviam' is decidedly trebly and raw, with this garage-like sound, (complete with endearingly clunky keyboards) affording the album a mystical quality and along with the catchiness of the guitar melodies proving to be one of the best attributes of the album.

The lyrics all deal with aspects of Ancient Greek mythology, and are complemented perfectly bu the mystical artwork, ancient and occult-tinged riffs and singer Sakis' excellent hysterical, screamed vocals. 'Non Serviam' is one of the best albums to emerge from the old-school mediterranean black metal scene, and stands as one of Rotting Christ's greatest achievements to date.
