Northern Star - Melanie C

NORTHERN STAR is the title of former SPice Girl MELANIE C's pop album. The album contains 12 tracks which I will review. The opening song GO is a uplifting start with great energy in the music and some powerful vocals aided by good instrumental support. NORTHERN STAR is a slightly slower tune with the vocals on top form. The lyrics are in good order while the melodies hit the right notes. GOIN' DOWN is an energetic number with some decent lyrics supported by a great rhythm and easy sounding vocals. My favourite track on the album is I TURN TO YOU. Based on two songs, i almost bought this for an outrageous amount of money a couple of years, ago. I had really high expectations because based on I Turn To You and Never Be The Same Again, this was meant to be amazing. It's atcually dubbed by many as the best album by a Spice Girl so your expectations arent gonna be sky high but you'll want it better than the second place of Emma's Free Me though. It's a good album, it has focus and the songs are driven by Mel's voice and voice alone. The production is quite stellar and dancey on this record so that is another strength. Melanie Chisholm's debut solo album is one of my favourite albums of last year. I was never a huge fan of the Spice Girls music although they were and still are hugely entertaining. So why did I buy Mel C's album then? Well, the first release from the album, entitled "Goin' Down" was the primary reason I bought the album. Mel C – Northern Star I bought this on Ebay for £3. I was when I was on an Internet buying spree! My expectation for this album were low as I wasn’t really into the Spice Girls and didn’t really think much of Melanie C’s singing voice. Really I can’t remember why the hell I bought this CD but I’m glad it did. You can buy this CD from Amazon.co.uk for £6. The cover is Melanie sat on a rock looking away from the camera. My mother bought me Northern Star as a christmas present and I am very pleased with this album. I think it deserves a thorough review as it has quite a variety of style. So here goes: 1)GO! - Great song to open the album, it seems a 50/50 mix of pop and rock, with the drums banging in the beginning. Produced by William Orbit, Pretty fast paced, makes you want to rock that head!
