Advantages: good listening

Disadvantages: tunes a bit samey

I was listening to the album Not accepted anywhere by the band The Automatic yesterday and though I would review it a change after Christmas from my toy and mince pie reviews,
First a little about the band The Automatic.
These 4 lads Robin Hawkins, Alex Pennie, Iwan Griffiths James Frost met in a Cardiff primary school. They released their first single in November 2005. The Album Not accepted anywhere is their first Album it was released in June 2006. They are signed with B Unique
The music The Automatic play is Indie Rock. I like listening to this style of music. If you wish to catch a live performance The Automatic are touring in February. There is a list of dates and venues at http://www.theautomatic.co.uk/tour.php.
The cover on the CD Not accepted anywhere is a green grey colour with a school badge emblem on it, not very exciting boys.
Now are you sitting comfortably? Listen with me.
There are 12 tracks, one of them I think you will immediately recognise as it has been played a lot on radio.

Track one. That's What She Said.
This is a lively upbeat track with a singalongable along chorus

2 Raoul
. Again an up beat song with a sing along chorus, a good drum beat that I am keeping time with while I am typing,

Track 3. You Shout You Shout You Shout You Shout
This song has a good tune played with guitars and has a good drum beat that gets me tapping in the chorus

4. Recover
This song was their debut single and has a good steady beat to it shows a lot of promise for this band. The words on this track are quite thoughtful too. This is a tune to jump and dance to.

5. Monster.
Now this is the track I think a lot of people will recognise the key words very singable “what’s that coming over the hill” This song starts gently. Then we quickly get to the chorus lyrics what’s that coming over the hill is it a monster is it a monster .Can you hear me singing?

6. Lost At Home.
This has a good tune a little quieter, but has some good guitar riffs in it.

7. Keep Your Eyes Peeled
This starts off with a good beat a bit more lively gets my feet tapping, The words a bit repetitive but it’s a good dance tune I want to play air guitar to it but too buyt head nodding and foot tapping will have to do .

8. Seriously... I Hate You Guys
This again has a very singable verse, that’s the happiest you’ve looked all day. My head not nodding feet not tapping so much to this song as the one before.

9. On the Campaign Trail.
A great start to this track. A good beat again

10. Team Drama
Some really good guitar on this track some sing along words ……….. is this the end of the world ……..

11. By My Side
.My fingers tapping my computer desk to this, singing the words in my head (not loud as hubby is working complains he can’t think if I sing)

12 Rats
Not such a fast track a good wind down to the end of the Cd.

You can buy this for £6.97 on Amazon.
Overall a good CD I think the Automatic have got the recipe for a CD right After listening to this very accessible music cd I am inspired to see if they are playing near enough to go see /hear live. At the moment The Automatic on this CD anyway seem to have a limitation on the tunes they play , the drumming good and steady but uninspired. However I like this it’s uncomplicated fairly easy listening. Just hope you get a few more tunes to make your next CD’S boys.
The Automatic are
Robin Hawkins (lead vocals, bass guitar)
James Frost (guitar, vocals)
Alex Pennie (synths/keyboards, percussion, vocals)
Iwan Griffiths (drums)

Summary: first album by this group from Cardiff

They're actually from a little market town called Cowbridge, about 12 miles from Cardiff. I know cos I grew up in Cowbridge and my parents still live there! They went to the same school as me (albeit 10 years later).
