... material but still relies heavily on a strange, hypnotic, rhythm that bounces along over Kylie's purring and vivacious vocals. Don't get me wrong there are worse moments on the album such as the hideous 'Be Faithful' by Fatman Scoop or Javine's massacre of 'Surrender [Your Love]' but these are beaten down by the infectious 60's based beat of Emma Bunton's 'Maybe'. Her vocals and just the fast paced, furious mood of the song make this one of her best solo singles whilst the Sugababes attack us with 'Hole In The Head', Girls ...more

Crowned Review Now That's What I Call Music! 56: Mix Me Up & Call Me Grandma! (1447 words)

I've decided to review a few of my Now That's What I Call Music' albums. Just because they were released many years ago it doesn't mean that they don't still generate huge interest from the public who like to pick them up cheap from places like Amazon and such and relive the musical classics of yesteryear or avid collectors who wish to complete their collection, so this review will no doubt be helpful to someone. Released in Christmas 2003, Now 56 has the very cold and attractive, icy looking cover with blends of blue, white and purple and featured the biggest hits from the closing months of that year. Personally a lot of the music around in 2003 bored me to ...  Read the complete review

Now 56 was the last Now That's What I Call Music compilation to be released in 2003, and came out in time to make a lovely Xmas present fro anyone who had been a fan of the charts music for the late summer and whole of autumn of that year. Following normal trends of Now compilations, it features a good blend of chart music as well as some dance and RnB favourites from the time frame. The first disc contains 22 tracks, and I have to say that a lotof them seem rather disctinctly average and disappointing for a Now compilation. It starts off well with the Black Eyed Peas' Wher Is The Love, and features some good htits from Rachel Stevens, Lamarr and Emma Bunton, ...  Read the complete review

My Dad used to be a DJ, so between us we have quite a lot of CDs! There is no surprise that he has the majority of the Now! Thats what I Call Music...CDs. These are a collection of compilation albums released seasonally, which are full to the brim of all the top songs of the previous few months. One of these is Now: 56, which was released in November 2003, so it was the Christmas album at the time, just in time for people to buy as gifts! The cover is quite 'Wintery', an attractive blue shade with star-shaped snowflakes in the background, behind the main title. The cool blue is quite relaxing too. This is one of the Now CDs Ilisten most to, as it ...  Read the complete review

The Now Thats What I Call Music series of comilation albums have been around for over 25 years and are still one of the best comilations you can buy today. First released in 1983, the albums managed to secure the much more hit tracks than rival albums because of a deal between 4 major record labels. Now Thats What I Call Music 56 was released just before christmas 2003 and contains some of the best hits from that year. Just listening to the cd takes you back 6 years to a time when atists such as Sugarbabes, Liberty X and Jamelia were on the radio. For the price of £3.48, this is a great bargain and has some songs that take you back, perfect for somebody that was a teen ...  Read the complete review

Compilation - 2004

makes a change from pop jnr, good clean tunes for kiddies and adults who have had a few The second Cd is hard to follow

Some good tracks Most of the album is quite dull for me and many of the track sound much the same

The 8 untouched songs will please some Complicated, messy, clumsy and awful remixes of songs which did have potential

A gentle and relaxing tempo achieved, perfect background music Very boring and lifeless in places, easy to miss songs

Consumed By Your Poison - Despised Icon
Moving towards a new sub-genre. Dull and repetitive.

Damage Done - Dark Tranquillity
Fine return to form. No new ideas.

Dealing With It - DRI
Fun, fast, dirty, angry. Not aggressive enough for hardcore fans; not metal enough for thrash fans.

Death Cult Armageddon - Dimmu Borgir
Improved production, and reasonable symphony. Boring.

Death's Design - Diabolical Masquerade - Soundtrack
Intriguing concept and structure. Somewhat flawed execution.

Demons And Wizards - Demons & Wizards
Talented guitars and vocals. Lacking in creativity.

Diary Of An Afro Warrior - Benga
A couple of bangers Fairly repetitive beats

Diminishing Between Worlds - Decrepit Birth
Good guitar work. Doesn't make sense.

Dismantling Devotion - Daylight Dies
More compelling and involving. Still steals from Katatonia.

Dragonslayer - Dream Evil
Tribute to classic metal, with appropriate modern power metal influence. Incredibly catchy. Cheesy.
