Advantages: Not many, but there are some decent tracks on here

Disadvantages: Mostly tracks I wouldn't have chosen

Now 46 is the second of three Now That's What I Call Music! releases in the first year of the millenium. There was a lot of good music that made it into the charts in this year, and this second encompasses three or four months in the spring and summer of 2000, and was released in July. I'm not a big fan of this release - I'm not a fan of quite a few of the tracks on the discs, but there is no accounting for personal taste in the Now CDs, and something I don't like may be someone else's favourite.

Now 46 follows the similar mold of other Now CDs, and has two discs, the first being slightly more commercially poppy, and the second featuring some of the dance tracks. Disc 1 (21 tracks) starts off brightly enough, with Britney's Oops I Did It Again and S Club 7's Reach starting us off in an upbeat form. Then comes a string of hits that hadn't really registered with me before, and I was no further impressed after listening to them again. Samantham Mumba, Mary Mary, and Louise Nurding's 2 Faced are among the disappointments. However, I am a fan of NSync's Bye Bye Bye, and the hit Yellow from Coldplay.

The second disc, which has 22 tracks on it, follows on it much the same vein, with some disappointing tracks from the off. I get the feeling that Now 46 was released when it was just for the sake of releasing one, and not because there was a wealth of hits waiting to be compiled. This second disc does have Groovejet's If This Aint Love and The Power of Love from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, but other than that there isn't really much on the disc that grabs my attention. Another disappointing disc.

Overall, I didn't really like this compilation. The first disc is better than the second, but even that isn't particularly impressive. But then, as I say, the Now CDs do take the successful hits and make a compilation of them, and try to cater to a wide range of tastes, and it is not always possible to please everyone. I guess this disc just wasn't one that catered for me! Now 46 is currently available from amazon.co.uk for £2.89, but it's not one that I would recommend.

Summary: Not one of my favourites
